National Signing Day has come and gone in NCAA Football for 2013 and we’ve come to the realization that everyone wants to play for a winner. Let’s take a look at some teams whose stock might have risen.
SEC Domination
While it’s true that there’s a major talent base that comes
out of the state of Florida, the SEC has been the dominant conference in
football and will be again with Alabama as a 13/4 favorite to win the BCS
Championship and 4 of the top 8 favorite teams to win the BCS Championship
reside in the SEC Conference.
The Two-Time Defending Champions
Naturally, a high school player’s first choice is going to
be a team like Alabama and it was for the 9th ranked recruit in the
nation, running back, Derrick Henry. Along with Henry, the Tide managed to
snatch 9 of the top 45 players in the nation, 21 4-star rated recruits or
better, and 26 overall commits. This team is stacked and we could most
definitely see a “3-peat” for Alabama. They will once again be a winning choice for your college football picks.
Aside from the Tide, Florida State managed to secure 2 out
of the top 14 recruits in the nation as they attempt to resurface as one of the
top teams in nation. In all, the SEC secured 7 out of the top 10 recruits with
Ole Miss as the big surprise.
Rebel With a Cause
The Ole’ Miss Rebels made a huge splash on the recruiting
scene as they managed to pick up the top ranked recruit in the nation , Robert
Nkemdiche. Not only that, the Rebels landed the number 5 recruit and 4 out of
the 24 recruits in the nation. This is a huge victory for Ole’ Miss, but I wouldn’t
expect them to be competing with Alabama any time soon.
Urban Meyer Equals
Winning
If the Ohio State Buckeyes weren’t hit by sanctions from the
NCAA Committee last season, Alabama would’ve had a run for their money as the
Buckeyes were undefeated. The Buckeyes’ success is due large in part to Urban
Meyer coming home and taking over as head coach. This guy wins wherever he
goes.
Ohio State is a great price at 7/1 to win the BCS
Championship and they managed to help themselves by picking up 8 out of the top
70 recruits in the nation. With Heisman Trophy candidate, Braxton Miller,
leading this team, they’re going to be a tough team to beat. Ohio State is my
pick to win it all.
BCS Championship Game
Backlash!
The “crap” has hit the pan with Manti T’eo and his make
believe girlfriend, blowup doll, whatever she is, but people fail to forget
that Notre Dame had a spectacular season and ended it quite poorly in the final
game. The Fighting Irish have dropped to 25/1 to win this year. Do they have a
chance to get revenge?
Recruit and Regroup!
Notre Dame has come back with avengence! They managed to
pick up 2 of the top 10 recruits in the nation and 4 of the top 23. The Irish
managed to land their 7th recruit in the top 100 with Torii Hunter
Jr. Hunter Jr. is the son of baseball great Torii Hunter.
This is a player that could’ve gone much higher, but got
into legal trouble and had a broken femur. It will take time to recover from
the injury and his reputation, but this could possibly be a hidden gem. Keep an
eye on this young man.
Summary
Except for Ole’ Miss, things went as expected with the SEC
dominating the top spots. Ohio State got their share of recruits, but people
overlook the fact that this was a flawless team last
season. College football leaves little margin for error and although drowning
in talent, every team will be gunning for ‘Bama.
