The Nebraska Cornhuskers are known for defense, but last
week some alarms were sounded when the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers ran all
over them.

Can the Idaho Vandals muster up any type of an effort to
threaten - or cover against - the Huskers?

The Idaho Vandals Can
Win Because...:
The Huskers defense is in transition right now.
Remember how everyone said the Huskers would be fine
after Ndamukong Suh graduated to the NFL? You don't hear many of those pundits
chirping now. Nebraska gave up 179 rushing yards to Western Kentucky last week
and they only managed one sack. Idaho and their big, meaty offensive line (one
of the biggest in the country) should feel a little more confident than usual.
It's still a huge task for them to go on the road to Lincoln
and win, but at least they'll have a veteran, four-year starting quarterback
leading the way. Nathan Enderle always dreamed of playing for Nebraska but now
he'll get a chance to surprise the team that he idolized. It's going to be a
homecoming of sorts.
Enderle connected with 11 different receivers last week
and if he can get some protection, this could be a surprise cover this week.
The Nebraska
Cornhuskers Should Win Because...:
They are motivated to show that last week was just a
one-off.
The Huskers took care of business last week , spanking
Western Kentucky 49-10 but there were some emergency alarms sounded when the
Hilltoppers racked up 179 rushing yards against Nebraska. At the end of the
day, they only managed 10 points but 179 rushing yards was more than the
Huskers allowed in any game last year. Clearly, there's a bit of concern.
Huskers fans need to put the razor blades down; it was
just one game.
Keep in mind that there is no preseason in college
football and some rust - and communication lapses in between some new players
on defense - led to the welcoming rush defense.
They'll be facing Idaho's big offensive line this week
but the good news is that the Vandals allowed four sacks last week. This should
be perfect antidote for the Huskers defense to get back its mojo.
On offense, there were only positive reviews in the first
contest. The Huskers have a three-man rotation at quarterback and it looks like
they finally found some real talent in Taylor Martinez. He'll be on display
against a defense that ranked 116th in the nation last year in pass
efficiency and gave up 36 points per game.
Outlook &
NCAAF Betting Prediction:
5Dimes has the Huskers favored by 28 points and that is
manageable for this squad. While the defense struggled last week stopping the
run, they'll clean up the mental gaffes, improve the communication and stifle
Idaho.
On the flip side, Idaho won't have an answer for Martinez
and the Huskers suddenly effective offense. Bet the Huskers to cover the
four-touchdown spread.
