The offensive powerhouse #4 University of Oregon Ducks invites the Bulldogs into Autzen Stadium. Will the Ducks simply pulverize Fresno State? Or can the bulldogs hang on long enough to cover the spread against the Rose Bowl Champs?

NCAAF Picks; Fresno State vs. Oregon

Oregon Uniforms, Flat BlackOregon looks to build off of their Week 1 blowout win, as they welcome in Fresno State for a Week 2 battle. While the Ducks’ early season schedule isn’t that difficult, the spreads that sportsbooks are giving them are. Oregon failed to cover in Week 1, and now college football odds favor Oregon by a large, -35 spread.

Fresno State comes in 1-0 after they dismantled Weber State 37-10. However, the Bulldogs face a tough task. Oregon has beaten them six times in a row, and Oregon has not lost to an unranked team in years. Even though Fresno is no pushover, the Ducks are still the #4 ranked team in the country, and their new look offense looked solid.

Ducks in a row

Freshman quarterback, Marcus Mariota looked solid in his first college start against Arkansas State. Mariota was 18-22 for 200 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions. Senior running back Kenjon Barber had a solid game as well before he was taken out. Barber had 66 yards on 9 carries and two touchdowns. The Ducks led 50-3 at one point, and Chip Kelley took out his starters after a half. The Red Wolves went on to score 24 second half points.

Fresno State will undoubtedly be a tougher matchup, but the Ducks should still win this game by multiple touchdowns. Oregon may have lost their Heisman caliber running back from 2011, but Barber will fill the void nicely, and if Mariota can continue to play well, Oregon has a solid chance at a BCS Title.

Bulldogs in tough fight

One thing that bothers me a little about NCAA Football, is the first couple weeks of game play. Big time college teams pad their beginning schedule with soft non-conference games that serve no more than a launching pad. Hopefully, if we get into the playoff system, this will change. Until then, we will have to see the Fresno States and Arkansas States get blown out by the Oregons of the country. Oregon also plays Tennessee Tech this season.

Even though the Bulldogs will most likely get hammered with a decisive loss, Fresno State has a great shot at covering the spread in this game (much like the Red Wolves did last week). After Oregon got a 50-3 lead in the second quarter, Chip Kelley pulled his starters. This could very well happen again in this game. Oregon is contending for a BCS title shot and they won’t want to get their principle players hurt while playing against inferior opponents.

The Sharp Pick

Oregon is only 1-5-1 ATS in their last seven home games. However, they are 15-1 SU in their last 16 home games. The last six times these two teams have met, Fresno State has lost all of them. However, they are 3-3 ATS in those three games and average spread of those games was only a fraction of the -35 it is now.

Oregon has covered three in a row against the Bulldogs, which included one away game at Fresno back in September 2006. I think the Ducks will pull their starters sometime in the second half of this game, and I see the Bulldogs getting a back door cover.
