Mississippi State will stay within this number if not upset Auburn straight up. Side with Sylvester Croom's Bulldogs on Saturday at the Tigers' Jordan-Hare Stadium.
Our Saturday NCAA college football selection is on Mississippi State plus the points over Auburn, as the Tigers fall into a negative 8-35 against the spread scheduling situation. What we want to do is play against any favorite in its thirrd consecutive home game, provided it lost the previous week as a favorite of minus 15 points or less, and won outright two games back.
Last week, Auburn was upset at home by South Florida, 26-23, as a 7-point favorite. And the Tigers eked out a victory at home over Kansas State two games back but failed to cover the spread. Now, Auburn has to take on a much-improved Mississippi State squad.
Although the Bulldogs were shutout 45-0 by LSU in Week 1, that's no great shame, and they rebounded nicely with a blowout win at Tulane as a 5½-point favorite.
Sylvester Croom's club returned 10 offensive starters this season, and Mississippi State averaged 24 points per game over its last six games of 2006.
The last two seasons, Auburn shut out the Bulldogs, but that won't happen this Saturday. Look for Mississippi State to exact revenge and upset Auburn. Take the points.
