Vegas Dave - With the 2009 season right around the corner, California and Oregon look like decent bets to go over their season win totals while the Florida Gators are not likely to go undefeated.

Chance Harper - Out west in the Pac-10 there's USC and then there's everyone else.  Pete Carroll's charges are the very best the conference has to offer on the gridiron and should have no trouble taking top prize again in '09.

Jim Feist - The bigger programs have it while smaller schools are left to dance with them what brung you to quote Darrell Royal.  Depth in college football is more crucial than any other factor and the difference between winning and losing.

Chance Harper - Nick Saban and the Alabama Crimson Tide rolled to a perfect 12-0 regular season before Florida topped them in the conference title tilt, and 'the heavy SEC West favorites look to knock the Gators from that top rung this year.

Chance Harper - While Tim Tebow deserves the attention for what he brings to the Gators on offense, Florida's defense will be a big part of their BCS title hopes in 2009.

Marcelo Figueroa - With Pete Carroll calling the shots, USC has been one of the most dominant college football forces this decade.  But a tough road schedule could prevent the Trojans from winning another Pac-10 title.

Marcelo Figueroa - Though 0-5 in recent BCS contests, Oklahoma is a strong candidate to cover huge spreads this with most of their high-powered offense, led by Heisman winner Sam Bradford, returning this year.

Vegas Dave - While NFL fans are looking forward to seeing QB Matthew Stafford and RB Knowshon Moreno in the pros, Georgia certainly wasn’t looking forward to losing them.

Vegas Dave - It’s not always fun being Irish, especially if you've been on the wrong side of the wagers in the Charlie Weis era. Lured away from the Patriots after the 2004 season where he had been the team's offensive coordinator, Weis' four seasons as head football coach at Notre Dame have been rocky to say the least.  Did the win in the recent Hawaii Bowl signal a turnaround for Weis at South Bend?

Chance Harper - More important than the NFL draft when collegians leave for the pros, National Signing Day takes center stage today as high school seniors make their official declaration for the next step in their careers.  And the hits just keep on coming for Pete Carroll at USC as the Trojans received commitments from the top QB in the nation, Matt Barkley, and the top-ranked defensive end, Devon Kennard of Phoenix.

Chance Harper - Florida's Tim Tebow missed out last season on his second Heisman Trophy, but he will get another crack at the 25-pound bronze sculpture this next fall after he announced his decision to return to the Gators.  Tebow will also get a shot at being a third college championship ring in the process, and the Gators are the early favorites to do just that with USC, Texas, Ohio St and Oklahoma filling out the Top 5.

Chance Harper - With two Heisman winners taking the field as opposing quarterbacks on Thursday to lead two explosive offenses in the BCS Championship, plus two high profile coaches in Urban Meyer for Florida and Oklahoma's Bob Stoops, it's easy to understand why special teams might not get much press for this game. But make no mistake, kickers and return specialists will be a huge part of the game to decide this season's champs.

Chance Harper - Ohio State got the chance to play in the past two BCS title games, and fell to SEC schools each time.  Texas thought they were going to get a shot at playing for the national championship this year, but the Longhorns were snubbed in favor of an Oklahoma team they beat in the regular season.  Now the two will clash in Monday night's Fiesta Bowl with the 'Horns favored by 8 against Chris Wells and the Buckeyes.

Bob Harvey -

This year's Emerald Bowl in San Francisco should play out as a home game for California as they trek in from nearby Berkeley. Meanwhile Miami (FL) has to travel across the Lower 48 to get to the game, and the 'Canes will make a go at it without five players that have been suspended for breaking team rules, including QB Robert Marve. The Bears should roll on Saturday night.

Bob Harvey - With four losses over their final five games, Notre Dame needs a win in this bowl game to have a winning record for the year.  Will the Hawaii Warriors upset those plans?

Bob Harvey - This should be one of the better bowl games of the season when the No. 9 Boise State Broncos put their undefeated record on the line against the No. 11 TCU Horned Frogs.

Bob Harvey - Navy took down then-No 16 Wake Forest in September behind their ground game and an error prone Riley Skinner.  Can the Deacons exact some revenge in this rematch?

Chance Harper - Over the next three weeks there will be 33 college bowl games in advance of the BCS Championship between No. 1 Florida and No. 2 Oklahoma.  The Gators opened as 3-point favorites over the Sooners with that line holding steady at the books so far. With the game being played in Miami, will that home edge be enough for Florida to claim their second National Championship in the last three years?

Chance Harper - The computers say it should be a rematch of the Red River Shootout for the National Championship.  But when human input is added into the equation, it will be the Oklahoma Sooners and Florida Gators instead.

Bob Harvey - It's time to go bowling as college football's regular season ended Saturday with a schedule that included both the Big 12 and SEC championship games as well as a few old rivalries.

Bob Harvey - It's the 109th meeting between Army and Navy as the two old foes meet at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia with the Midshipmen favored by 10½ against the Black Knights.

Chance Harper - The top two conferences on the college gridirons will hold their championships on Saturday, though looking at the spreads in each game might lead one to think the two games were September warm-ups.  Tim Tebow and Florida take on John Parker Wilson and Alabama in the SEC as 9½-point faves while Sam Bradford and the Oklahoma Sooners are laying 16½ to Missouri in the Big 12 tilt.

Chance Harper - The South Division of the Big 12 couldn't decide its champion, so the BCS took care of that for them.  Oklahoma slipped ahead of Colt McCoy and the Texas Longhorns in the latest BCS rankings, and as a result the Sooners will head to the Big 12 title tilt to meet Missouri, champs of the North.  Only one thing is certain: The controversy will sell a lot of column inches and air time on the talk shows this week.

Chance Harper - Three of college football's biggest rivalries are on deck for your Saturday wagering and viewing pleasure.  Only this season the decks are heavily stacked and the games figure to be one-sided victories.  Included in the tripleheader is Notre Dame heading west well away from the shadow of Touchdown Jesus and into Trojans territory where USC is a whopping 31½-point favorite vs. the Irish.

Chance Harper - It was a pretty good Saturday for favorites on the college football gridirons as chalk ran up a 26-19 mark for the week.  That pushed faves to a 308-302-10 season record, leaving the books happy with the 50-50 split.  Among those laying points to cash were Oklahoma (-7) in a 65-21 rout over Texas Tech and Ohio State (-20½) with a big 49-18 win over their Big Ten rivals from Michigan.

Chance Harper - Norman will be the setting for the weekend's most important college football game between No. 2 Texas Tech and No. 5 Oklahoma with the Sooners looking to end the Red Raiders dream season.

Chance Harper - The polls remained virtually unchanged for once on the college football scene as favorites went 38-12 SU in Week 12, including a 15-3 mark for ranked favorites.  But it was a different story at the pay window as favorites went just 24-26 ATS to put them at 282-283-10 ATS on the season.  The Florida Gators were one of the faves that cashed in a big way, routing Steve Spurrier and South Carolina 56-6.

Chance Harper - With their ticket to the SEC Championship already in hand, the Florida Gators aren't looking that far ahead just yet with a big game on tap at home in Gainesville this Saturday against Steve Spurrier's South Carolina Gamecocks.  Tim Tebow leads the heavily favored Gators into the matchup with Florida coming off five blowout wins since falling 31-30 on their home turf to Mississippi in late September.

Chance Harper - The BCS picture cleared up a little this past weekend as Penn State fell to Iowa on Saturday, part of a 5-8 ATS day for ranked teams against unranked opponents.  One of the ranked favorites to buck that trend was Oklahoma as the Sooners walloped Texas A&M in College Station 66-28.  OU quarterback Sam Bradford threw four TDs and also threw his name back among the Heisman favorites.

Bob Harvey - Alabama and Texas Tech kept control of their own destinies with wins on Saturday, the Tide earning a 27-21 win in OT at LSU and the Red aiders whipping Oklahoma State 56-20.  Penn State?  Not so lucky.

Chance Harper - The Baton Rouge faithful will amass in their purple & gold Saturday afternoon when LSU welcomes Nick Saban back to Tiger Stadium with his Alabama Crimson Tide, the nation's top-ranked team.  Is 'Bama destined to become the fourth No. 1 to fall this season when they take on the Tigers, currently No. 16 in the BCS, and if so, will Texas Tech or Penn State ascend to the throne?
