Cheering for USC against Hawaii in NCAAF 2010

Increased Point Spread

Looking back at the original preview of USC at Hawaii, the pointspread college football odds were a mere -18 in favor of the Trojans.  If you didn't get in on the odds for the NCAA football betting steal here in value, it might not actually be too late.
Today USC stands as an increased favorite to win in Hawaii on Thursday night.  Check SBR's coverage of the spread, which now stands at Trojans odds being a 21 to 21 ½ point favorite.

Most books have the latter and increased odds for the game, including Pinnacle and 5Dimes.  However, if you want that extra half point to bet on USC, visit BookMaker and Legends.

What Has Changed?

What has changed in the past few weeks since the three point difference in the spread for the game?  Well, not much.

News out of the USC camp is that Junior RB Mark Tyler will start for the Trojans.  Last season's leading rusher, Allen Bradford, was reportedly beat out for the job.  There are two other named starters for the team who are Freshmen, WR Robert Woods and CB Nickell Robey.

These talented rushers will go against a defense that allowed almost 30 points per game and 405 yards per game.  Perhaps both Tyler and Bradford will get their work in, as this game is expected to be quite the blowout.

The predictions all across the Internet are for a USC rout, which is highlighted by nearly every sportsbook and betting enthusiast, including those on the SBR forums for college football handicapping.

The Same Story

As chronicled on SBR previously, USC is expected to take control of Hawaii in this game.  We have already covered Hawaii's suspect defense, that didn't perform well, especially against good competition (see Hawaii v Wisconsin from last year).

Hawaii is only returning 5 offensive players, while completely rebuilding the line.  Expect enough turnovers and 3-and-outs to give the Trojans chances to take control of the game and the spread.

Lane Kiffin is expected to allow his players to run up the score against Hawaii.  After the offseason USC has had, indeed, they may come to Hawaii's home turf to take it out on the less-than-capable Warriors.

Like Hawaii?

If you like this Hawaii matchup, of course banking on the spread, there are some reasons to look forward to this game.

The Warriors odds 21 ½ point spread is quite large.  Additionally, Hawaii does play better than normal at home, which may be to their advantage (in the spread, not in the game).

USC is also expected to play a lot of underclassmen, apart from those who are starting, as previously covered.  Sophomore Devon Kennard will also start at MLB in place of returning starter Chris Galippo as well.

Be wary of taking the points, however.  Last year's stats, performance against good competition, and suspect roster for Hawaii plays against the beating that is expected to occur against the Warriors at home.

Thursday night will reveal if the bookmakers and handicappers are right.  It's not too late to take advantage of the odds in either perspective.
