Now that baseball’s Hot Stove has finally cooled down and the Free Agent market has closed for business, we can finally take a realistic look ahead at 2012. It’s time to weed out the contenders from the pretenders.

There’s no such thing as competitive balance in the American League Western Division in 2012. You’ve got the Angels, the Rangers and two also ran’s in the Seattle Mariners and Oakland Athletics this season.

Since the Baseball Winter Meetings concluded in December, it’s been mostly quiet on the baseball free agent front. There have a few deals mostly minor in scope and certainly pale in comparison to the Albert Pujols and C.J. Wilson deals with the Angels. 

Not only did the Tigers make a huge splash when they signed Prince Fielder to a nine-year, $214 million dollar contract, they became a huge betting favorite in the American League. Will they lead the AL Central Division?
