We are on an 8-1 run and looking to cap off the week on a strong note with a preview and pick on today's Giants at Rockies game. Madison Bumgarner pitches for San Francisco against Jeff Francis for Colorado. Check out our play on this one.
Rockies one of the
worst teams in baseball
Colorado has dropped 8 of their last 10 games and are a
league worst 38-66, costing bettors 23-.19
units on the year. Their starters are averaging a league worst 6.33 ERA
with a 1.66 WHIP, while the bullpen doesn’t get any better with a 4.32 ERA. In
their last 10 games, their pitching has given up a total of 73 runs. Colorado has been riddled by
injuries, but they have plenty of talent and there is no excuse for this type of
baseball being played; a change needs to be made.
Bumgarner vs. Francis
Today's line is favoring the Giants on the road at -154 with
the OVER/UNDER at 10. Madison Bumgarner will get the ball for the Giants. He's been on quite the tear of late, giving up just 15 hits in 20 innings with an outstanding 0.95 WHIP and a 2.70 ERA in his last three. His
counterpart, Jeff Francis, is a wholly different story, getting lit up in his last
three with a 7.20 ERA to go along with a 1.33 WHIP. There is certainly an
edge in pitching to the Giants today.
If there is anything in which Colorado can take heart, it is
that Bumgarner has had some struggles on the road with a 4.24 ERA, serving up
13 of his 16 HRs on the road; we all know the ball flies out of Coors Field but, surprisingly enough, Madison has been quite dominant in the Rox home ballpark
with a 2.84 ERA, giving up just 8 earned runs in 25 innings pitched.
Here is the kicker, though, as bad as Colorado has been,
their offense has still been putting up runs at an impressive rate. Against LHP''s like Bumgarner, they have a team batting average of .261 in their last
five games with a .346 OBP while averaging close to 7 runs per nine innings.
Jeff Francis has shown some decent skills with 31 strikeouts to just 8 walks on the year, and the Giants aren’t exactly playing their
best baseball lately, dropping seven of their last 10. As a team in their
last five games, they have really struggled against LHP with a team average of just .202 with
a .268 OBP and averaging barely just 3 and half runs per game.
The Decision
With the Giants struggles - they've dropped 7 of their last 10 - especially against lefties, Francis doesn’t need to be perfect just good enough keep his team in the ballgame. This is a coin flip match up and the
Giants are being over-valued quite a bit
here. We will take a chance here and take the home dog at +145, banking on Colorado to put up enough runs on the board while Francis keeps the struggling
Giants line up in check.
Pick: The Rockies +145 is our MLB Pick of the Day. Lets cap off
this week with a 9-1 run! Good luck everybody!
