Go West, young man: Florida Marlins +128 at Toronto Blue Jays

This is great value on Florida's young starter Sean West.  Go fishing with the Marlins as road underdogs this afternoon in Toronto when they take on the Blue Jays.

Today, young 6-foot-8 hurler Sean West (1-1, 2.22 ERA) gets the start for the Marlins north of the border vs. Casey Janssen (2-2 5.24 ERA) and the Toronto Blue Jays. We love the value oddsmakers are laying out on the table for us with Florida in this game.

Janssen has dealt with injury problems in his career that have set him back. He missed all of last season with a shoulder injury and made his first start in the majors since 2007 this season after missing some of April and May as well. We're not sure if Janssen mentally is ready for his role to start at this level because of his past struggles. It is also possible the injury is still looming in his head, bothering him more mentally than physically.

Janssen was a starter for the Jays in his rookie year in '06 compiling a 6-10 record and 5.24 ERA. In '07 they moved him into the bullpen and he pitched solid in 70 games with a 2.35 ERA in 72.2 innings. We feel Janssen is more suited to be coming out of the pen and wouldn't be surprised after a couple of more starts if he was moved back to a relief role. He hasn't pitched well at the Rogers Centre this season; in just 11 innings of work he has given up eight earned runs and 18 hits with a 6.55 ERA and a 1.91 WHIP.

West has been solid this year with three of four quality starts under his belt. He has given up just eight earned runs in 24 innings this season compared to Janssen giving up 13 earned runs in 22 innings on the hill. West has allowed just 14 hits and two home runs and he has faced some solid offensive clubs (Mets, Devil Rays, and Brewers).

The Jays are just 3-9 in Janssen's last 12 starts. They are chewing bankroll up in their last 12 interleague games laying chalk with a 3-9 record. We love the value with Florida and will back them this afternoon.
