Tampa Bay was able to walk away with the win as underdogs in Game 1, but how are the baseball odds makers going to look at the remaining games of this series? Join us as we share our MLB picks for the final two games of this series.
Joe Freda’s 2012 MLB Record: 41-43-2 (-3.03 ROI)
The Tampa Bay Rays held on for a 3-1 victory in Tuesday night’s
opener against the Baltimore Orioles, cashing as 126 road dogs. Rays third baseman cracked a two-run homer
from his lineup’s No. 9 spot, while closer Fernando Rodney tossed two of his
staff’s 10 strikeouts en route to his 28th save.
The series continues at Camden Yards with matchups on Wednesday
night and Thursday afternoon. Wednesday’s action has Rays southpaw David Price taking the hill against
Orioles right-hander Miguel Gonzalez, while Thursday’s finale pairs up
Baltimore’s Chris Tillman with Tampa Bay’s James Shields in a duel of righties.
Thursday – 12:35 p.m. (ET) – James Shields (8-6, 4.39 ERA) vs Chris Tillman (2-1, 1.15 ERA)
Shields picked up a no-decision in Friday’s 4-3 extra-inning victory for Tampa Bay, who pulled out the win in the 14th frame to cash as a 177 home favorite. The 30-year-old notched 10 strikeouts over 7 2/3 innings, allowing three runs on four hits.
Tillman logged his second win in three starts with Saturday’s 3-1 victory for Baltimore at Progressive Field, cashing as a 142 road dog against the Indians. The fourth-year hurler gave up one run in 6 2/3 innings, holding Cleveland’s lineup to six hits.
The Orioles have been held to a .235 BA against right-handed pitching at home, but rocked Shields for six runs in May’s 9-8 slugfest win for Tampa Bay in Baltimore. Tillman has not faced Tampa Bay since two starts in 2010, giving up a sizable 11 runs over the span’s eight IP.
The OVER has cashed at 4-1 in Shields’ last five starts against American League East clubs, while going 5-2 in Tillman’s last seven outings against clubs with winning records. I am looking to add the OVER to my MLB picks once again in this spot, with the wager cashing at 3-1-1 in Shields last five trips to Baltimore.
MLB Picks: OVER
Wednesday - 7:05 p.m.
(ET) – David Price (13-4, 2.64 ERA) vs Miguel Gonzalez (2-1, 2.61 ERA)
David Price notched his fifth win in six starts with Thursday’s 6-0
victory for Tampa Bay as a 190 home favorite against the Cleveland
Indians. The three-time All-Star held
Cleveland to two hits over seven innings, while logging seven strikeouts and
Gonzalez made his third start of the season in Friday’s 10-2
triumph for the Orioles in Cleveland, collecting as a 121 road dog. The rookie gave up two solo-shot homers as
part of seven hits allowed, lasting 6 2/3 innings.
Baltimore has hit .280 against left-handed pitching at home, but
was held scoreless against Price last month in the team’s 5-0 defeat at
Tropicana Field. Tampa Bay has notched
4.5 RPG over its four matchups in Baltimore this year, but faces an arm in
Gonzalez that has surrendered just one homer in his 10 IP at Camden Yards.
The UNDER has cashed at 4-1 in Price’s last five starts, while
Baltimore has seen the UNDER collect at 5-2 in its last seven affairs facing
southpaw starters. Look for the UNDER to
cash again here, adding to its 13-3 mark in Baltimore’s last 16 contests with baseball odds makers setting the ‘total’ between seven and 8 ½.
MLB Picks: UNDER
