C.C. Sabathia is off to a much faster start than usual, as he has pitched very well since a shaky starts vs. these Red Sox on opening night. Look for C.C. to get some revenge here.
The Yankees paid a lot of money for CC Sabathia as a free agent last year, but so far nobody could argue that they haven't received their money's worth and then some.
Sabathia has been clutch when he's needed to be. A notorious slow starter, the big lefthander gets the chance tonight to make up for a bit of a shaky start in the season opener on April 4 when he surrendered five runs in 5 1/3 innings, his last start against the Boston Red Sox and his last start at Fenway Park.
Since that outing, Sabathia has been mostly his usual dominating self, and the Yankees have outscored their opponents by a total of 29-9 in his five starts since opening night.
His opponent will be young right-hander Clay Buchholz and while nobody would confuse Buchholz for Sabathia, the 25-year-old has pitched pretty well for the most part. His 2.97 ERA is impressive, but Buchholz still allows too many base-runners as indicated by this elevated WHIP of 1.42. In his three Fenway starts of 2010, he is 1-2 with a 3.63 ERA while in his career at Fenway, Buchholz is 7-6 with a 3.86 ERA.
Buchholz has made three career starts against the Yankees, going 0-1 with a 5.74 ERA.
