Josh Beckett has looked like his old self in his two starts since coming off of the Disabled List, while A.J. Burnett has pitched much better in July than he did in June. Take the 'under.'
The Boston Red Sox take on the New York Yankees in Game 3 of their four-game weekend wraparound series on ESPN Sunday Night Baseball.
It wasn't bad enough that the Red Sox lost Jacoby Ellsbury, Dustin Pedroia, Victor Martinez (who has since returned), Mike Cameron, and Jason Varitek, but now they have to go the rest of the way without their most clutch hitter; first baseman Kevin Youkilis, who had season-ending surgery on his thumb.
One of the only pieces of good news that this team has had recently is the successful return of ace right-hander Josh Beckett from the DL. Beckett had his first start back in more than two months on July 23, and he's had two more starts since then and seems to be back to 100 percent, as he went eight quality innings in his last one at home against the Indians on August 3, picking up his second straight win while striking out eight batters without a single walk issued.
After a very rough month of June and a much better month of July, right-hander AJ Burnett will get his 23rd start of the season tonight for the Yanks. He no doubt will welcome the prospect of facing the depleted Boston lineup in front of his home fans on National TV. The under is 6-3-1 in the last 10 meetings of these two teams in the Bronx.
Take the 'under.'
