In today’s MLB Picks of the Day we make our case for RA Dickey clinching the Cy Young award while the Yankees look to put an end to Red Sox miserable season and try to regain first place in the AL East.
There are only a few days remaining in the regular season, so don't miss out on these free MLB picks.
Dickey looks to strengthen his Cy Young case
Not only is R.A looking for his 21st win today,
he is also bidding for the CY Young against Gio Gonzalez. Here's the thing
though, Dickey is 3rd in NL in with a 1.05 WHIP, a mere .2 points
behind Clayton Kershaw who is #1 at 1.03. R.A leads the NL in strike outs with
222 and is 2nd in overall ERA at 2.69. I mean come on, Gio Gonzalez
may have 21 wins but he does not rank at the top of each category like Dickey
does.
RA will face the Marlins today, a team that he has
absolutely owned in his career with a 10-2 record and 2.75 ERA. There is only
ONE player in the Marlins line up that is hitting over .210 against Dickey. This
is a perfect set up for him to get his 21st win and lock up this CY
Young.
Justin Turner
Turner goes for the Marlins, and he's been stellar in his
last 3 outings with a 2.50 ERA and 1.22 WHIP.
He just faced the Mets on Sept 21 and was drilled for six runs in five
innings, but he seems to have settled down and figured things out since then
considering his numbers over the last few starts. The Mets line up will have
their work cut out for them, as the team will try to get Dickey his 21st
win.
Play the UNDER
MLB odds makers have opened the UNDER at 7, and we will gladly bite. This
Mets lineup has not scored over three runs in four straight games, with a
shutout thrown in the mix. They will be pressing extra hard today with the
pressure of trying to support Dickey. RA will surely continue his dominance
against the Fish, this one will be a low scoring 1 run game in which a side is
not predictable but the total is.
MLB Pick: New York – Miami UNDER 7 is our first play.
Boston at Yankees
The Red Sox look like they are trying to hand the Yankees
the division, getting crushed last night 10-2. In that game Boston started just
two players who were in the opening day lineup. They show little interest in
winning at this point or even spoiling the Yankees season, which should be
their biggest goal.
Jon Lester
Just like the rest of his team, Jon Lester looks like he has
packed it in. Loser of three straight starts which has resulted in a 4.50 ERA.
Jon his given up a combined 10 earned runs in his last three to go along with 3
deep balls as well. The Yankees have had his number this year being that Lester
has posted an ERA of almost five against the Bronx Bombers. He'll be up against
it today, being that the NY offense has been on fire, putting up a combined 33
runs in 4 games.
David Phelps
Phelps will look to help the Yankees gain ground in the AL
East as they are dead locked with the Orioles. The question is can he handle
that type of pressure? If you go strictly by the numbers, they suggest he can.
David has not given up more than 2 earned runs in 5 straight starts. The kicker
is though, that 4 of them have all been in relief. Phelps will be making his
first start since Sept 19 in which he went 6.1 strong innings of three hit balls,
one earned run and striking out six. So he has certainly shown the ability to
step into the rotation and provide quality innings.
The Red Sox just want to be put out of their misery while
the Yankees will be juiced up as ever trying to keep up with Baltimore. The major
edge here in confidence and adrenaline will be going to the Yanks.
MLB Pick: Take the Bronx Bombers -155.
