We are coming off of two consecutive successful parlays and I am feeling super confident. Let's go for the trifecta today, so climb aboard as the winning train is ready to take off for this Tuesday's MLB parlay of the Day.

Recap

Yesterday I bought a half run in the Mets-Phils total, which wasn't needed, but we still hit the under and the Baltimore Orioles were an instant success against the Seattle Mariners as they won 10-4.

Check the weather report!

As you saw with the Pirates-Cubs game last night, teams like the Pirates that are in playoff contention are doing everything possible to make sure that the games are being played, but certain areas may have rain in the forecastand that's a concern.

Houston Astros at St. Louis Cardinals

St Louis CardinalsYou're not going to find a bigger pitching mismatch anywhere, and the MLB odds reflect it as the Cardinals are listed at -280 with a total of 8.5 runs. I actually thought the Cardinals would even be a slightly larger favorite, if you can believe it, as they lead the Los Angeles Dodgers by 1 game for the final wild card spot in the National League. Saying that, the Houston Astros are actually on a 2 game winning streak. Can they make it 3 straight at these immense odds?

Spoiler alert

The Astros did a great job of playing spoilers to the Philadelphia Phillies, as they took the last 2 games from the Fightin Phils over the weekend. Scott Moore was the hero of the day as he went 2 for 3 with his 8th home run of the season. A 4 run 7th inning put Houston over the top and possibly knocked Philly out of the race.

The Astros face a stiff challenge as they look to avoid their 100th loss of the season while sending Fernando Abad (0-4, 5.08) to the mound as he faces possibly the best pitcher in the National League in Kyle Lohse (14-3, 2.81).

Lohse is coming off of a 3-2 defeat at the hands of the San Diego Padres and has been very hittable in his last 3 outings. He's given up 13 runs on 19 hits in his last 18 innings pitched. Is this a spot in where Houston can take advantage of recent success and hitting against a pitcher that's been merely average?

From the Astros perspective, Fernando Abad is a relief pitcher that will give Houston 4 innings at best. If Abad were to pitch a great game, which isn't likely, the bullpen would have to shoulder the load.

Cardinals Depth

The Cardinals are offensively sound and contain a lot of depth. Let's remember, this is the time of the year where David Freese excels. Not only that, Fernando Abad will have names like Carlos Beltran, Matt Holliday, John Jay, and Yadier Molina to deal with.

In the end, the Cardinals pitching and offensive will have no trouble with the lowly "Stros" but I'm sticking with the chalky moneyline because the Astros have been doing a good job as spoiler.

Parlay Pick #1 - St. Louis Cardinals -280

Oakland Athletics at Detroit Tigers

For the time being the Oakland Athletics are in the driver's seat; they're gaining on the Texas Rangers (just 3 games behind) and they have a significant grip on a wild card spot.

Oakland A'sThe Detroit Tigers on the other hand, need to gain some ground quickly to make the playoffs but they have two options. The Tigers trail the White Sox by 3 games for the American League Central Division title and they're also 5.5 games behind the Orioles for the final wild card spot.

Maximum effort

This indeed, the Tigers will get as they send strikeout machine Max Scherzer (16-6, 3.77 ) to the mound as he faces A.J. Griffin (6-0, 1.94) for the A's. This is a great pitching matchup as both pitchers have been pitching exceptionally well as of late.

For the Athletics, they know that they'll get a quality outing out of Griffin with his picture perfect control but the only issue is his ability to go no more than 6 innings.

Detroit really needs this game and Scherzer is a flatout beast. In his last 6 starts, Max Scherzer has pitched 43 innings and has given up just 5 runs on 26 hits while striking out 52 batters. He too, has near perfect control and is also riding a 6 game winning streak.

I'm a little torn here in that Scherzer is a superb pitcher but the A's are a legitimate threat and A.J. Griffin has been pitching "lights out" lately. Let's lean towards the total as it seems to be reasonable.

Parlay Pick #2 - Oakland/Detroit UNDER 7.5 -125 ( Both of these teams can hit well but there's no reason why the quality of the pitching will decrease)

MLB Betting Parlay-  St. Louis -280 and Oakland/Detroit UNDER 7.5 -125

Good luck everyone! Let's nail number 3!
