Chance Harper - Several series are on the board to entice viewers and bettors alike this weekend, including a big West Coast series with the Padres at the Dodgers.  That set includes a marquee mound matchup on Saturday when San Diego's Jake Peavy opposes LA's Brady Penny.  Other key games find the Brewers at the Cubs, A's at the Yankees and Mets in Philadelphia.

Chance Harper - Last night's rain-shortened 2-0 win for the Mets left the New Yorkers with a 2-1 advantage in their home series against the Cardinals, a rematch of last year's NLCS.  Pitchers have had the upperhand so far in the series with just 13 runs tallied in the first three contests, and that shouldn't change tonight when Adam Wainwright and Orlando Hernandez take the mound.

Chance Harper - Saves, holds, setup men, left-handed specialists and closers are terms that didn't even exist in baseball's lexicon until recently.  But bullpens are now one of the most important aspects of the game, and teams without a solid relief corps can pretty much forget the postseason, not to mention cost bettors plenty of heartache at the window.

Chance Harper - The hitters are supposed to be at a disadvantage when facing pitchers they don't normally see.  So you'd expect the offense to be down in interleague play.  But that was not the case this past weekend as the Over came out on top by a 23-17 margin (57.5%) versus the Under.  The AL also won out as well, topping the NL 23-19.

Do runs equal wins?

05/18/2007 12:00 AM
Chance Harper - It's a simple proposition, but does it hold true? Do teams that score a lot of runs win more games? And do teams that score the fewest runs win fewer games? Under the weather

04/20/2007 12:00 AM
Chance Harper - Sure, we all know that April in Major League Baseball often means cold weather and low-scoring games. But in the first two weeks of this season, with the numerous cold-outs and snow-outs and 2-1 games, these early-season indicators to seem to be playing out to an extreme as Mother Nature wreaks havoc with her wintry conditions across the MLB landscape.

Cubbies try to get on track

04/16/2007 12:00 AM
Chance Harper - The Cubs were supposed to have a potent offensive attack this year, thanks in no small part to the offseason addition of Alfonso Soriano. But through the Cubbies' first eight games of this season, their mega-rich new centerfielder hasn't knocked in a single run. And as a team, the Cubs have scored just 31 runs total, half of those in back-to-back games in Milwaukee last weekend.
