Wednesday’s rematch between these foes has the Kansas City Royals' right-hander Luke Hochevar (4-6, 5.04 ERA) opposing lefty Josh Outman (1-1, 4.15 ERA) of the Oakland Athletics.

The Kansas City Royals are off to a 3-1 start in the first four games of their present road trip, including Tuesday’s 7-4 win as 150 MLB odds underdogs against the Oakland Athletics.  Royals sluggers Billy Butler and Alcides Escobar both notched two RBIs, while closer Joakim Soria logged two strikeouts in the final frame for a save.

Sportsbooks opened the betting odds with Outman as a 145 home favorite, while first setting the ‘total’ at 7 ½ ‘over’ (minus 120).

Outman picked up his first loss in Wednesday’s 3-2 defeat for Oakland as a 136 road dog against the Baltimore Orioles.  The 26-year-old gave up all three of Baltimore’s runs in six innings (78 pitches).

Oakland’s Jemile Weeks went 3-for-3, including a double and triple.  Weeks’ mate Coco Crisp notched his squad’s sole RBI, going 1-for-3 in the leadoff spot.

Oakland is 14-16 in its first 30 home dates, with the ‘over’ going 16-11-3.  Weeks and Co. have hit .243 against right-handed pitching in that span.

Hochevar notched a win in Thursday’s 3-2 triumph for Kansas City as a 119 MLB betting home dog against the Toronto Blue Jays.  The fifth-year hurler allowed both of Toronto’s runs, lasting seven innings (98 pitches).

Kansas City’s Mitch Maier and Wilson Betemit both cracked doubles en route to both finishing the night 1-for-4.  The duo’s mate Eric Hosmer had the team’s hottest bat, going 2-for-4 with one RBI.

The duel’s combined five runs plunged ‘under’ the ‘total’ of 8 ½.  Royals reliever Aaron Crow logged a hold, tossing a hitless eighth frame.

Kansas City is 9-17 in its first 26 road meetings, with the ‘over’ collecting at 15-10-1.  Hochevar is 1-3 in his four road starts, with a 1.44 WHIP and .345 OBP.

Wednesday’s first pitch is scheduled for 10:05 p.m. (ET), with the weather forecast in Oakland calling for a clear 69-degree night and calm winds.  Umpire Tim Tschida is slated behind the plate, with the ‘over’ going 8-4 in his first 12 called games.

This handicapper is backing the Royals and Hochevar, taking a price of plus 130 in this spot.

Hochevar has pitched well in his last two outings against the Athletics, allowing one run in a combined 12 innings.  Oakland’s top hitter Cliff Pennington (.266 BA) and cleanup man Josh Willingham (10 HRs) are a combined 0-for-11 lifetime against Hochevar.

Outman is not worthy of a home ‘chalk’ premium, with his sole outing in Oakland garnering a sizable WHIP of 1.83.  The May 28 start against Baltimore saw the hurler log five walks in six frames.

Kansas City’s Billy Butler is 2-for-3 against Outman lifetime, and enters the matchup with a seven-game hit streak.  The hot slugger is 5-for-13 in his last three games, including two doubles.

Soria has also put together solid relief work for the Royals, holding foes to no runs in his last eight IP.  The closer has given up just two hits in that span.

Look for the undervalued Royals to cash another ticket at plus money en route to a possible road sweep.
