Arizona at California NCAA basketball pick

As we run up to Super Bowl I am going to release a big  play each day up to and including Saturday as part of our ‘Build Your Bankroll’ series and hopefully give you all a little extra to wager on the big game on Sunday.

You may remember last year in the day’s leading up to Super Bowl XLV I had released three plays designed to give you extra cash to unload on my Super Bowl Winning Play. I won all three of those plays ATS last year and I have posted a 7-1 ATS mark in Super Bowl picks since 2001. I am confident of these plays, but as I always preach in the threads, use discipline first and foremost.

20* graded play on California as they host Arizona in Pac-12 action set to start at 11:00 PM ET. The NCAA basketball odds makers opened here with the Cal a 6.5 point favorite and the spread is now 7 with the total at 131.5.

For our East coast posters and followers I apologize for keeping you up late on a Thursday, but it should be for good reason. Cal enters this showdown with a 17-5 record and is 7-2 in Pac-12 action. Arizona is a solid 14-8 and 5-4 in pac-12 action. Cal is not ranked, which is very puzzling to me, but after a solid week of wins, I do believe they will crack through into the AP Top-25 poll.

Brandon SmithIt is hard to imagine that the Pac-12 does not have one team ranked in the AP poll. Cal is on top of the Pac-12 standings with a 7-2 mark. They are tied with the Washington Huskies, but own the tie breaker by having defeated them 69-66 at Spokane and were favored by one point.

Arizona is coming off a very disheartening loss to Washington losing at home 69-67 and failed to cover as 4.5 point favorites. The Wildcats played a decent game, but had 15 turnovers. They led by three points at the half, but they did not defend perimeter well and allowed the Huskies to shoot a blistering 43% from beyond the arc on six-for-14 shooting. The Huskies were abysmal from the charity stripe hitting just 7-of-16 free throws for 44%. but managed to hold on for the win. Arizona got the charity stripe far more times than Washington and converted on 21-of-29 shots attempts for 72.4%. This type of loss can take the starch out of a team knowing they face the most difficult part of their Pac-12 schedule.

Injury update

Cal’s leading scorer Allen Crabbe was seen walking into the training room wearing a protective boot Tuesday and it was widely reported that he would miss tonight’s game perhaps many more. However, he has been upgraded to probable for this game tonight. Even if he does not play, Cal has the talent to step up and offset the loss of Crabbe. Brandon Smith would take his spot in the starter’s role and although that would leave Cal very thin on the bench, this play would remain valid for action.

Simulator projections

My proprietary sports betting database and simulator show a high probability that Cal will win this game by 10 or more points. The sim shows a high probability that Cal will make 47 to 53% of their shot attempts, will grab nine to 13 offensive boards, and will have between 40 and 44 rebounds in this game, In past games Cal is a rock solid s 8-2 ATS when they make 47% to 53% of their shots in a game this season; 7-1 ATS when they grab nine to 13 offensive rebounds in a game this season; 10-2 ATS when they grab 40 to 44 rebounds in a game over the last three seasons.
