Charleston has built on its upset win against North Carolina and taken control of the Southern Conference, but expect The Citadel Bulldogs to slow the Cougars on Monday.
Our Monday night college basketball selection is on The Citadel plus the points on the road over the Charleston Cougars.
The Cougars are well on their way to winning the South division of the Southern Conference, but The Citadel may delay things a bit with an upset win tonight. These two teams met back on January 9, and Charleston pulled the minor upset with a 61-55 road win (as a 3 ½-point underdog).
That was a big win for the Cougars, as it was a potential flat-spot, given that Charleston came into that contest off a huge 82-79 upset win over the North Carolina Tar Heels (as 13 ½-point home dogs).
But instead of letting down vs. The Citadel, Charleston seemed to use its upset win over North Carolina as fuel for bigger and better things in the Southern Conference, and Charleston now sits at the top with an 11-2 conference record.
But The Citadel is a sparkling 22-5 ATS as an underdog over the past two seasons, and is a perfect 6-0 ATS on the road off back-to-back wins.
Charleston's Andrew Goudelock scored 22 in the January matchup to lead all scorers, adding 10 rebounds to his ledger to give him his only double-double this season. The Cougars made up for being out-rebounded by the Bulldogs with a 9-of-11 performance at the line and a 10-1 edge over The Citadel in blocked shots.
The Cougars have been making the green all season with a 13-5-1 mark against the spread, including 7-1 ATS at home in Carolina First Arena. However, the Bulldogs have cashed four of the last five trips they've made to Charleston's home court.
Take The Citadel plus the points on this Monday.
