The No. 3 Miami Hurricanes head north to visit the Clemson Tigers, while the Illinois State Redbirds host the Wichita State Shockers. Here are two NCAA basketball picks with great value.
ESPNU Hoops Doubleheader
Sunday night’s college
basketball betting features an ESPNU doubleheader, with action from the
Atlantic Coast Conference and Missouri Valley Conference.
Miami has reeled off 12
straight wins, with a 9-2-1 spread record over that span, while Illinois State
has cashed four straight tickets in MVC play (82.8 PPG). Will the ‘chalk’ stay
hot here or are the dogs getting enough value?
No. 3 Miami Hurricanes at Clemson Tigers
Miami’s latest triumph
came in Wednesday’s 74-68 victory over the Florida State Seminoles, ‘pushing’
as a six-point road favorite. The Hurricanes shot a stellar 63.8 percent from
the field, with mates Shane Larkin and Reggie Johnson notching team-highs of 22
points and eight rebounds, respectively.
Clemson ended a
three-game losing streak with Thursday’s 56-53 win as a 3 ½-point road dog
against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. Tigers forward Devin Booker came away
with eight boards and three blocks, while Clemson held Georgia Tech to a 34.5
percent night of shooting.
Bookmaker.eu opened
Miami as 6 ½-point road ‘chalk’ for Sunday’s battle, with early wagers on
Clemson driving the number a ‘hook’ south to six. Clemson is 5-1 ATS in its
last six meetings with Miami, including a cashed ticket as a 4 ½-point road dog
in last year’s 76-73 victory for the Hurricanes.
I am backing Miami in
this contest, looking for Johnson and Co. to come away with a sizeable road
win. Johnson hauled in seven rebounds in last year’s battle with the Tigers,
while Clemson will be without the departed Tanner Smith and his team-high 23
points this time around.
Clemson was held to 55.5
PPG in its home dog spots this season against North Carolina State and Arizona,
with another tough foe coming to town here. The Hurricanes are 6-2-1 ATS in
their last nine duels away from home, while notching a 15-5-1 spread record in
their last 21 matchups against squads with winning records.

Wichita State Shockers at Illinois State
Redbirds
Illinois State pulled
away in Wednesday’s 79-59 victory over the Bradley Braves, collecting as 11
½-point NCAAB odds home ‘chalk.’ Redbirds forward Jackie Carmichael finished with 27
points and 13 rebounds, notching his second double-double in four games.
Wichita State picked up
its latest win on the same night of action, holding off the Drake Bulldogs in a
71-56 triumph as a 15-point home favorite. Shockers freshman Fred Van Vleet
logged 17 points and nine assists, while he and his mates held Drake to 34.7
percent field shooting.
The Shockers defeated
Illinois State in January’s matchup between the rivals, 74-62, getting the
money as eight-point home ‘chalk.’ Shockers forward Carl Hall grabbed 10 boards
en route to Wichita State outrebounding the Redbirds, 42-33.
5Dimes.eu opened
Illinois State as a 1 ½-point home favorite in Sunday’s rematch, with early
wagers on the Redbirds lifting the number a ‘hook’ to two. I am taking the
short number here, looking for the Shockers to cash again as road dogs.
Wichita State has come
away with victories in its last two visits to Illinois State, including last
February’s 68-55 win as 5 ½-point road ‘chalk.’
Shockers guard Demetric Williams united with Hall to hit 5-of-5 field
buckets in that affair, combining for 13 points.
Illinois State is 2-5
ATS in its last seven dates at Redbird Arena, including a 0-3 spread record in
the team’s trio of spots as a single-digit favorite. Look for the Redbirds to
fall again here at the betting windows, with the Shockers pulling out a tight
cover.
