The NC State Wolfpack are playing like a team determined to claim a number one ranking as they have three emphatic wins so far, and look for another double-digit win over Oklahoma State on Sunday.
There could be a potential blowout in the championship game of the Puerto Rico Tipoff on Sunday when the Oklahoma State Cowboys (3-0, 2-0 neutral) take on the blazing NC State Wolfpack (3-0, 2-0 neutral) at Coliseo de Puerto Rico in San Juan, PR at 6:30 ET in a game televised nationally on ESPN2.NCAA Basketball Pick
The point spread at Bookmaker Sportsbook has NC State as a decided favorite for this contest with a current line of -9 at odd of -110.
NC State was the choice of many including ourselves to dethrone North Carolina and Duke and win the ACC Championship this season, and the sixth ranked Wolfpack have certainly lived up to the billing so far.
The Wolfpack are 3-0 while winning by an average of +24.4 points with their smallest winning margin being by 17 points, and their 3-0 ATS mark has them on a scintillating 11-0-1 ATS run going back to the tail end of last season.
Most impressively, NC State has not been beating up on creampuffs like a lot of other highly ranked schools in the early season either, as the 17-point win came over Penn State in the first round of this tournament, and the Wolfpack followed up by beating Massachusetts by 18 points 94-76 Friday to reach this championship game.
This early success should not be too surprising considering that NC State returned four starters from that team that advanced to the Sweet 16 in March, including a couple of All-ACC performers in power forward C.J. Leslie and point guard Lorenzo Brown. In addition, the Wolfpack brought in one of the best recruiting classes in the country with three McDonald’s All-Americas highlighted by T.J. Warren, making this the best Wolfpack team in a long time.
The youngster Warren is still coming off the bench, and yet he is already averaging 17.0 points while hitting a sensational 70.0 percent from the field!
Oklahoma State is also 3-0 after the Cowboys were a very disappointing 15-18 one year ago, but they were not nearly as impressive as NC State before a 62-45 romp over the Tennessee Volunteers Friday as a four-point underdog on the NCAA Basketball odds. They opened up the season with a closer than expected 73-65 win at home over lowly UC-Davis as 19½-pont favorites, and they then needed overtime to get past Akron 69-65 in the first round here.
Even in the blowout of Tennessee, the Cowboys shot a dismal 18-for-43, 41.9 percent from the field, and believe it or not, that was an improvement over their first two games as they are still at a poor 39.7 percent for the early season. Comparatively, NC State is shooting an incredible 56.1 percent including a blistering 45.3 percent from beyond the three-point arc.
The 3-0 records are just about the only similarity between these teams right now, so look for NC State to win by double-digits on Sunday.
