Wichita State Shockers

Image preview

If you didn't know much about the Shockers before the tournament, you probably know a little bit more now.

They've been killing it at as a #9 seed, easily getting past Pittsburgh 73-55 in the first round and then sending out one seed Gonzaga in the Round of 32. The Bulldogs are the first one seed to be sent home in this year's Big Dance.

The Shockers entered as 6.5-point underdogs but gave Gonzaga fits from the opening tipoff. Five consecutive three-pointers at one juncture in the second half were enough to tip the balance.

Ron Baker hit some huge shots and ended up with 16 points, six rebounds and four assists,  and Cleanthony Early and Fred Van Vleet's 29 combined points off the bench were huge factors as well.

Early, Carl Hall and Malcolm Armstead are the leaders on this team. Early averaged 13.9 PPG and 5.2 RPG, while Hall was good for 12.6 PPG and 6.9 RPG while shooting 53.9 percent from the floor. Armstead has been the playmaker throughout the season, and will look to bounce back after a quiet performance against the Bulldogs.

La Salle Explorers

Image preview

The Explorers have been fighting for their lives all tournament long, beginning with a play-in game victory over Boise State.

Not many gave La Salle a legitimate chance of advancing past the first round, but they immediately made a statement by upsetting #4-seed Kansas State.

Two days later, the Explorers beat anoter upset-minded team in Ole Miss, who had dumped Wisconsin out of the tournament in their own surprise win. La Salle was up for the challenge though and emerged victorious in what was a close game throughout.

The winning bucket came on a Tyrone Garland layup with just three seconds left. Garland logged 17 points (6-of-16 FG) to go with four rebounds, three assists and two steals.

Ramon Galloway (24/4/3) and Tyreek Duren (19/4/2) were having a lot of success on the offensive end as well and will be called upon to inflict similar damage against Wichita State.

College Basketball Pick

The Shockers have been mighty impressive thus far, but something is definitely on La Salle's side right now. They're squeaking out wins in a number of different ways and have shown tremendous mental fortitude in doing so.

Galloway (17.4 PPG) is a great player and has been outstanding on the big stage, scoring at least 19 points in each of his team's three tournament matchups so far. Throw in Duren (14.5 PPG), Garland, and Jerrell Wright (10.7 PPG and 6.8 RPG) and you've got four guys who can take over on any given night.

Having covered in three straight and with a 6-2 ATS mark over their last eight, we believe La Salle will get the job done again, and therefore we are happy to back them with our sports picks.
