We have two NCAA Basketball picks today in our article. One
of whichis the highest profile game of the night between the Wisconsin Badgers
and the Florida Gators. Also included, great mid major, ranked in the Top 25,
the Creighton Blue Jays.
Wisconsin vs. Florida
The 20th ranked Badgers will take on the 10th
ranked Gators tonight in what should be a defensive battle all night long. Odds
makers have opened up Florida a 5.5 point favorite and with heavy money pouring
in on the Gators, it has moved to 6.5. The total is set at 122.5 and we feel
this one stays UNDER the posted total.
Possible Injury To Florida Star
The Gators could be missing some major production from their
PF position. 6'10 Erik Murphy who shot 50% from the field and dropped 15 points
in the season opener, is questionable for tonights game with an undisclosed
illness. If he is not able to suit up, that is big hit to the Gators inside
presence and point production.
Lock down defense
In Floridas first game, they held Alabama St to just 35
point total points (some teams score that in half), 21% shooting from the floor
and just 20% from beyond the arc. Now I know it is only Alabama State but
Florida could have took this team lightly and just showed up and won on pure
talent alone. But they didn't, they were dedicated on the defensive end and
showed no mercy. This is a very solid defensive team and head coach Billy
Donovan has them selling out at all costs, hustling for lose balls, crashing
the boards and doing plenty of dirty work. They should hold this Wisconsin
team, who already likes to slow the pace down and play ugly, under 55 points.
Just like the Gators, Wisconsin were also tremendous on the
defensive side of the ball in their season opener, holding South Eastern
Louisana to just 47 points, 35% shooting and also the same from beyond the arc.
The Badgers and head coach Bo Ryan are a notoriously great defensive team, they
love to slow the pace of the game down, run the shot clock all the way down and
get into defensive slug fests. It is very rare will you will see a score in a
Wisconsin game that is, say 75-70. We expect this to be no different tonight.
Going a different direction
Early on in the season 1st half UNDERS have been
cashing at a very high rate and we are going to stick with that trend here.
Reason being, it's still very early in the season, the offense is the last
thing to come all together for these teams, while the defense is consistently
there. Look for this game to get out to very slow ugly start, each team working
tremendously hard to even get easy looks at the baskets, nothing is going to
come easy in this game.

After Creighton destroyed North Texas in which was expected
to be a competitive game, they have opened up a 16 point home favorite against
the UAB Blazers, who are with a first year head coach and coming off a win
against a Division 2 team.
Creighton is FOR REAL
This team is serious and I mean final four serious. They
faced off with North Texas in their first game, now North Texas may not sound
like a big name team but they possess a National player of the year candidate
in Tony Mitchell. Creighton is known for lighting up the score board but what
makes them even more dangerous was their effort on the defensive side of the
ball.
They held North Texas to just 51 points, 31% shooting and
just 12% from three!. The Blue Jays are one of the most potent offensive teams
in the nation and UAB will have to play the game of their lives to have a
chance at slowing down this well oiled machine. Doug McDermott (also a player
of the year candidate), dropped 21 points and 11 rebounds against North Texas
and the kid is an absolute monster who can not be stopped! Creighton can drop
80-90 points on you in blink of an eye.
UAB taking a big step up in class
The Blazers took on a Division 2 team their first game and
won convincingly, putting up over 100 points but this is a huge, huge step up
for them. #1 They will be playing in
Creightons home building, where the Blue Jays have not lost to an unranked, non
conference team since February of 2007! Also UAB has dropped 19 straight road
games to ranked opponents since 1998. They are certainly in for it tonight.
Should be a cake walk for Creighton.
