Sunday’s college hoops betting has a pair of west coast tips on the board, with the St. Mary’s Gaels hosting the Yale Bulldogs and the USC Trojans returning to Galen Center against the Dayton Flyers.
St. Mary’s takes its floor as big ‘chalk,’ while odds-makers see
a tight tilt between the Trojans and Flyers. Will home cooking in California
get the money or are the road dogs worth a look?
Yale Bulldogs at St. Mary’s Gaels
St. Mary’s moved to a
4-1 spread record in its last five ‘board’ battles with Thursday’s 82-59
triumph over the Rhode Island Rams, collecting as a 20-point home favorite. The
Gaels drained 8-of-19 buckets from three-point land as part of a 52.7 percent
night of field shooting.
Gaels guard Matthew
Dellavedova notched 12 points and a season-high 10 assists, finishing with his
first double-double of the year. The battle’s combined 141 points leaped OVER
the ‘total’ of 137 ½, with St. Mary’s sizably outrebounding the Rams, 40-13.
Yale logged an 85-75
defeat in Friday’s setback against the Nevada Wolf Pack, holding on to cash as
an 11 ½-point road dog. The Bulldogs were held to 38.6 percent field shooting
en route to picking up their seventh loss in nine spots away from home.
Bulldogs mates Austin
Morgan and Michael Grace united to sink 12-of-12 free throws, combining for 37
points and six assists. Yale’s Justin Sears grabbed a team-high eight boards,
while the matchup’s 160 points soared OVER the ‘total’ of 132.
St. Mary’s opened as a
22 ½-point home favorite at Bookmaker.eu, with the Gaels playing the front end
of a back-to-back. Monday’s action has St. Mary’s remaining home against the
Harvard Crimson.
I am taking the big
number here with Yale, looking for the back door to be left open. The Bulldogs
have gone 2-1 ATS in their last three ‘board’ affairs, holding foes in that
span to 67.7 PPG.
Justin Sears ranks as
the Ivy League’s second best shooter for (53.2 percent), while being fifth in
boards (6.5 RPG). Look for Sears and Co. to get the cover, adding another
losing ticket to the Gaels’ 2-8 spread record in their last 10 contests that
followed a spot of cashing ATS.

And now for our second NCAAB pick for Sunday:
Dayton Flyers at USC Trojans
USC and Dayton have both
been idle over one week, last seeing action on Dec. 22. The Trojans logged a
64-56 defeat as three-point road dogs against the Georgia Bulldogs, while
Dayton collected as five-point home ‘chalk’ in a 77-68 victory over the Murray
State Racers.
USC’s setback brought
Kevin O’Neill’s squad to a 1-6-1 spread record in its last eight games,
including a 1-3 ATS mark in four home dates. Dayton’s victory moved the Flyers
to a 4-1 spread record in its most recent five duels, holding opponents to 67
PPG in that stretch.
Trojans guard Jio Fontan
ranks third in the Pacific-12 Conference for assists (5.3 APG), while mate
Dewayne Dedmon has led his squad in boards (7.2 RPG) and steals (1.2 SPG).
Dedmon was held scoreless in 12 minutes of action against Georgia, while Fontan
drained 2-of-5 buckets beyond the arc en route to eight points.
Flyers junior Devin Oliver
grabbed 11 rebounds against Murray State, moving to rank second in the
Atlantic-10 Conference for boards (8.6 RPG). Dayton’s Kevin Dillard notched a
double-double in the same matchup, finishing with 18 points and 10 of his
side’s 19 assists.
I am backing Dayton in
this duel, adding a ticket on the Flyers as one-point underdogs. Archie
Miller’s troops have put up 80.3 PPG in its last trio of spots away from home,
cashing with a 3-0 ATS mark.
The Flyers notched an
81-76 victory as 8 ½-point dogs over the Alabama Crimson Tide in their latest
road contest, with Dillard knocking down 7-of-14 field buckets en route to 25
points. Dayton faces a USC squad logging a 7-19 spread record in its last 26
home dates, while putting up just 60.2 PPG in the span’s latest four contests.
