The second game on Thursday night in the East Region will tip off at 9:45 PM EST from the Verizon Center in Washington, DC, and will feature two of the most storied programs in all of college basketball, as the #4 seed Syracuse Orange taking on the #1 seed Indiana Hoosiers, with the winner advancing on to the Elite 8.

Pick: Syracuse vs. Indiana
The Syracuse Orange will go head to head with the Indiana Hoosiers
in a win or go home scenario this coming Thursday when the two teams clash on
the court, with the winner inching closer to the Final Four. But, find out if
we think the SU winner is also the team that will cash in on the NCAA Basketball odds boards.
Several sportsbooks, including Bookmaker have pegged the Hoosiers
as -5 ½ point favorites on their odds boards, but Indiana is just 2-6 ATS in
their last 8 games overall.
The early NCAA Basketball odds had the over/under hovering right around
135 points at most online shops. Indiana went over the total 14 times this season
and fell short of the number in 16 matchups. Meanwhile, Syracuse eclipsed the
total 14 times and kept in under in 18 contests.
In their last outing, Syracuse ousted California by a score of
66-60 and was rewarded by earning a birth in the Sweet 16. However, they
disappointed bettors who back them, as they failed to cover the -7 ½ chalk
Meanwhile, Indiana narrowly escaped with a win against Temple, a
game they won 58-52, but fell well short of the inflated -12 point spread. The
Owls pushed the Hoosiers to the limit, but in the end the #1 seed came through
down the stretch and when it mattered most to advance on to the Sweet 16.
A Look At
Syracuse features an offense that averages 71.5 points per game,
but the Hoosiers are eight points better, averaging 79.5 per night. Indiana
also has the edge behind the arc, draining an average of 7 three-pointers per
game, while Syracuse is hitting 6 per game from downtown.
Defensively, Syracuse is giving up fewer than 60 points per game
(59.4) to opponents, which gives them a slight advantage over Indiana, who is
surrendering just about 62 points per game.
If there’s one matchup that many could have predicted and
anticipated for that matter, before the bracket got busted it up, most likely
Syracuse taking on Indiana would have been the choice – even for us bettors.
However, the rich tradition and history will not help Syracuse. When it comes time to place our NCAA Basketball picks, I expect Indiana to handle its business and run right through the Orange en
route to a win and point spread cover.
