Tuesday night in college hoops offers up, among other things, an interesting inter-regional match-up as the 5-1 Georgetown Hoyas run with the 5-2 Texas Longhorns

'Horns, Hoyas Hoop it Up in New York

This Week's CBB Record: 0-1

...as part of the Jimmy V Classic from MSG in NYC (7 pm ET, ESPN).

NCAAB betting oddsCan the 'Horns bring home a victory for the Big 12? Or will the G-Towners grab a W for the Big East? And where might there be some money to made by betting this game?

'Horns-Hoyas Betting Lines and Trends

Most NCAA Basketball betting outlets we consulted opened this game with Georgetown favored in the odds by five points, but many shops quickly bumped the Hoyas to -6.

Also, the total on this game opened at around 117, then got bumped to upwards of 119.

And for those who think Texas might pull an upset Tuesday night the 'Horns can be gotten at around +230 on some of the various moneylines to win this game outright.

'Horns-Hoyas Game Set-Up

Georgetown, with only two starters back from last season, is off to a 5-1 start to this season. The Hoyas opened with a close win over Duquesne, a victory over Liberty, then beat then No. 11 UCLA 78-70. G-Town then pushed No. 1 Indiana to overtime in Brooklyn before falling 82-72.

Since then the Hoyas beat Mount St. Mary's, and last Friday out-uglied Tennessee 37-36. Georgetown should feel fortunate about winning a game in which it shot 36 percent from the floor, made one of seven 3-pointers and four of nine free-throws, as against the Vols.

On the other side of this match-up Texas, with three starters back from last season, has already gone through some ups and downs this season. The 'Horns won their first two games, over Fresno State and Coppin State, but then lost back-to-back games out in Hawaii to lower-division Chaminade and a mediocre USC team. The Longhorns have since won their last three games, topping Mississippi State, Sam Houston State and, last Saturday, Texas-Arlington 70-54.

The Longhorns shot 13-for-26 from 3-point land Saturday.

For the most part Texas has been starting three freshmen and two sophomores so far this season. The 'Horns leading scorer, G Sheldon McClellan, is a sophomore who's come off the bench in four of seven games.

Georgetown has been starting two juniors and three sophomores this season.

Statistically Speaking

Georgetown has shot 48 percent from the floor as a team this season, 35 percent from 3-point range but just 64 percent from the FT line. At the other end of the court the Hoyas have held opponents to 39 percent FG shooting.

Texas, meanwhile, has shot 43 percent from the floor, 36 percent from long range and just 65 percent from the line. Defensively the 'Horns lead the nation in FG defense, holding foes to just 31 percent shooting.

Texas games have averaged 120 total points this season, while G-Town games have averaged 123 points.

These two programs have only met once before, way back in 1972, a 78-70 Texas victory in the season before legendary John Thompson took over as head coach at Georgetown. So, who do we choose for our NCAAB picks?

'Horns-Hoyas Free NCAAB Pick

Texas made half its 3-point attempts its last time out; that won't happen Tuesday night. Georgetown shot just 36 percent from the field its last time out; that probably won't happen again Tuesday, either.
