10* graded NCAA Basketball pick taking the “OVER’ in the game seeing Clemson take
on Virginia Tech in ACC tournament action set to start at 7:00 PM
ET. Neither of these teams are going to the Big Dance even with a win in this
game. Virginia Tech is 15-16 and just 4-12 in ACC conference action. Clemson is
16-14 and 8-8 in ACC conference action. The winners of this game gets the four
seed Florida State Seminoles and if somehow either of these teams would post a
huge upset and defeat them, they would then arguably face No. 1 seed North
Carolina Tar Heels.
College Basketball Betting
Line
NCAA Basketball odds makers opened the total for this game at 119 ½ -110, where early sports betting action has quickly
moved it to it's current price of 121 ½ -110. The intriguing part of this line
movement is despite the fact it has risen, the type of rise has me more
confinement and bullish that this will be a high scoring game. The reason is
simple.
Of all of the bets being made at the twelve NCAA Basketball betting shops I monitor, 75% of
the plays have been on the ‘under’. This means that with only 25% of the best
made on the ‘over’ the line has risen 2 ½ points. That reflects the fact that
there have been some very large bets made on the ‘over’ to more than offset the
75% of the bets taking the ‘under’.
Simulator Projections
My proprietary sports handicapping database and simulator shows a
high probability that 125 or more points will be scored in this game. It
further projects that Virginia Tech will make between 72 and 78% of their free
throw attempts and make between 38 and 45% of their three point shot attempts.
In past games, Virginia Tech is
13-4 ‘OVER’ when they make 72% to 78% of their free throws in a game over the
last three seasons. Clemson is 42-25 ‘OVER’ when their opponents make 38% to
45% of their three pointers in a game since 1997.
Game Situations
The Hokies are coming off of four straight losses, with the last one a 70-58
home loss to NC State and failed to cover as 1 ½ point favorites. Hokies are a
strong 8-1 ‘OVER’
off a loss by 10 points or more to a conference rival over the last three
seasons. Clemson head coach Brownell is a solid 33-18 ‘OVER’ in road games
after three straight games committing 14 or less turnovers in all games he has
coached since 1997.
My Pick: Take the ‘over’ for a 10* Titan Play
