2011 CFL Grey Cup
Preview
There were no surprises this past Sunday in the CFL Division
Finals as the top two seeds in the playoffs will now butt heads in the 99th
Grey Cup Championship.
Winnipeg completed a
worst-to-first transformation in the East with a 19-3 victory over Hamilton this past Sunday
as a three-point football odds favorite. The total stayed well ‘under’ the 51-point
line. BC will get the rare opportunity to actually host a Grey Cup and will try
and become the first team to win a championship on its home field since
accomplishing this feat in 1994. The Lions earned their spot in the
championship game with a 40-23 romp over Edmonton
as six-point home favorites. The total in this one went well ‘over’ the
50-point line.

CFL Grey Cup Championship-
Sunday, November 27
Winnipeg Blue Bombers vs. British Columbia Lions
Point spread: BC (-7)
Over/Under: 50.5
Winnipeg
now has an overall record of 11-8 straight-up. It went 12-6-1 against the
spread and the total stayed ‘under’ in 12 of its 19 games. The Blue Bombers
were 5-4 SU in nine road games this season and 5-3-1 ATS.
BC has one more victory than the Bombers this season at 12-7
SU. It was 11-7 ATS and the total stayed ‘under’ in 12 of 18 games as one game
closed off the board. The Lions are 7-3 SU and 6-4 ATS at home this year.
Winnipeg
got the best of it between the two in the regular season, with SU and ATS
victories the both times they met. The Blue Bombers rallied from a one-point
fourth-quarter deficit in Week 5 to pull-out a 25-20 victory as 2.5 -point home
favorites. The total stayed ‘under’ the 52-point line. Winnipeg’s defense made life miserable for
Lions’ quarterback Travis Lulay in this one; sacking him six times.
Just two weeks later they went at it again and BC had no
answer for the Bombers’ offensive attack this time around. Winnipeg rolled to a 30-17 win as a 1 ½-point
road underdog after opening-up a 20-point lead after three quarters. The total
stayed ‘under’ again with the line closing 49.5.
Bomber quarterback Buck Pierce
went 18-for-24 for 237 yards and back-up QB Alex Brink ran for two scores in
the lopsided win. However, this game ended-up serving as the starting point for
an amazing run by the Lions, who proceeded to win 11 of their next 12 games SU
on their march to this title game.
Winnipeg
is now 4-2 SU in its last six games against BC and 5-1 ATS. It is also a
healthy 4-1-1 ATS in six previous trips to BC Place. The total has stayed
‘under’ in eight of the last 10 meetings overall and has stayed ‘under’ in the
last seven games played in Vancouver.
Both team’s starting QB’s, Pierce and Lulay, are listed as
probable with minor injuries, but should be raring to go come Sunday. The Blue
Bombers scored the exact same amount of points as they gave up this season with
432, while the Lions tied for the second-most points in the CFL with 511 and
gave-up the least amount of points in the league with 385.
