Two teams fighting injuries will meet in Saturday's lage game when the San Diego Chargers play host to the Dallas Cowboys. WHen it comes tim to place our NFL picks, which team do we believe will play for the win, and who will play it safe?
The last
game of the evening Saturday night will be the between the home Chargers,
hosting the Cowboys. The NFL odds makers favor the Chargers by -3, and with the injury
concerns facing the Cowboys; it might end up being more. Should you trust the
Chargers after they knocked out the Packers last week, or will the Cowboys
overcome their injuries, and take the Bolts to school?
Follow us as we preview this matchup and determine where football bettors should place theri NFL picks.
Big D in BIG trouble
The
Cowboys came into training camp as some people’s choice to win the NFC East
over the defending champs and the Eagles. However, we aren’t even half way
through the preseason, and already people are retracting those statements.
Miles Austin is dealing with yet another hamstring injury, which limited him last
season, and it doesn’t look good for this season yet again.
To make
matters worse, long time Cowboy tight end, Jason Witten, has a lacerated
spline, and will be out for at least the rest of the preseason, if not more.
Those are Tony Romo’s two favorite weapons, and both look like two huge
question marks.
Romo has
proven that he can do it with bench receivers on offense. Plus, he will still have
DeMarco Murray, the sensational sophomore running back who broke a few Cowboys
records last season. Witten and Austin could very well be fine for the regular
season, but if they aren’t, it could end up being a very long season for
Dallas.
Go Chargers go
Speaking
of disappointing, if you look up the definition of disappointment in the
dictionary, you’ll find pictures of recent Chargers teams right next to it. In
fact, both of the teams in this game should probably be listed. Therefore, I
will refer to this game as the battle of the letdowns.
San
Diego did score a late touchdown to defeat the Packers in their first preseason
game, but the score came so late in the game, that half the guys on the field
won’t even be wearing an NFL jersey this season.
The
Chargers are slight second favorites to the Broncos in the AFC West this
season, but if they put it all together, they might be able to finally do
something in the AFC, which will be a down conference this season.
The Sharp Pick
With all
the problems facing the Cowboys, I sincerely doubt they go all out to try and
win this game. The Chargers on the other hand will be wanting to continue the momentum
of beating the Packers, and they will want to get Phillip Rivers acclimated to
his new receiving core. San Diego lost Vincent Jackson to the Bucs this
offseason, and now Rivers will have to get used to a very new group of targets,
with the exception of Antonio Gates.
Even
though home favorites are 8-11 ATS this preseason, and the fact that home teams
in general are 8-10-1 ATS, I like the Chargers in this one. Dallas won’t want
to risk injury to their starters on either side of the ball, because if they
get anymore injured, they could be in for big trouble.
Even
though the Chargers lost Ryan Matthews to a broken collarbone last week, I
think they will still want to win this game, and play their offense for most of
the first half.
My Pick: Chargers -3
