Earlier we
discussed team props on Super Bowl Sunday but in this article we turn our
attention to some player proposition wagers that may earn us a few bucks while
we root on the side or total of our choice.
Guys we reason
that prop bets are like strip clubs. Fun
to visit once in a while but to make it a regular part of your regimen will
only hurt your wallet and leave you completely unsatisfied. Then why play prop bets at all you may ask;
because like our favorite peel palaces, we want to see what we’re missing.
Super Bowl
is a time to have a few cold ones, a few more, scream a lot, check your squares
after each quarter and then pray the final score doesn’t leave your wallet as
dry as your mouth will be the following morning. In the spirit of having fun without risking
the mortgage, let’s take a look at a few player props and see if we can make a
few bucks to go along with a lotta laughs!
Tom Brady total passing yards in the
game
Over 327 ½ Even
Under 327 ½ -130
Did you
happen to catch BenJarvus Green-Ellis running like a man possessed against the
Ravens? I don’t think it was coincidence
that the Pats emerging running back Stevan Ridley was deactivated (speculation
was that it was due to an untimely fumble against the Broncos in the divisional
playoff game) and The Law Office responded with a withering cross examination
of the Ravens stop unit. New England had
five different players run the ball and they may just use that blueprint
against the Giants.
That’s a
long way around to say that a controlled and balanced attack may be the best
way for the Patriots to beat their Super Bowl nemesis. That’s why we say the ground game will be on
full display while Brady looks for his favorite receivers on short passes that
move the chains. We’ll go with Under 327 ½ (-130) of passing completions for Tom
Terrific.
Player to score 1st TD in
the Super Bowl
There are
six other players with lower odds on this long list so I cannot be accused of
being a chalk eater. That being said,
I’m not exactly Captain Courageous by picking a long shot either. The guy I like to score the first touchdown
of the Super Bowl is Eli’s go-to guy in the postseason, Hakeem Nicks. Yes, Hakeem was the first to reach the
endzone in the Giants wildcard and divisional round games so why not here? He’s got the speed to exploit New England’s
woeful secondary and Eli loves to see him wide open. We’ll
take the plunge with Hakeem Nicks +850.
Will Tom Brady throw at least one
interception?
Yes -150
No +120
Look Tommy T
has thrown his share of picks lately and he’s not a guy who makes a habit of
doing so. If you believe in the due
factor, boy oh boy is Tommy due for a whale of a game. He had a lousy game against the Ravens for
which he will want to atone and of course he wants revenge for the Super Bowl
loss to these same Giants from a few years back.
While I’m
not a subscriber of guys “getting up” for one opponent over another I do
believe this game and this opponent is a different kettle of fish. Brady will be sharp and deadly accurate on
February 5th without any INT’s on his ledger. Brady will not be throwing any picks and we
will cash because of it. Play No +120 in this one.
