SBR is gearing up for the start of NFL 2010 and football betting
coverage throughout the Season. We continue with the New York Jets and the
impact of Revis signing.

The Jets 'trash talking' head coach Rex Ryan has stated on
numerous occasions that anything short of making the Super Bowl would be a
failure for this edition of the Jets.
That is certainly significant pressure to place on his team
without having played a game this season and certainly adds another bullseye on
their backs for the media to attack. But the team is buying into it, with several players making bold statements recently.
Bookmaker has posted Jets betting odds win total at 9 1/2
-110,
which is stark contrast to the Jets making the Super Bowl.
Other divisional foes are listed at Miami 8 1/2 -120, Patriots at
9 1/2 even, and Buffalo 5 1/2o +130.
For odds to win the division The Greek
has listed the Patriots as the team to win the very competitive AFC East at
+115. The Jets are listed at +140 and Dolphins or Bills at +345 to win the
division.
Darrelle Revis Signs for the NY Jets
The biggest news occurred Monday when All-Pro defensive back
Darrelle Revis ended his 36 day hold out and signed a contract that both sides
claim to be a solid deal. Through the rancorous negotiations the Jets get to
keep him for four seasons and are paying him $32 million of guaranteed money, which is less than Oakland is paying Nnamdi
Asomugha. Revis has been declared at 75% for Monday's Week 1 game. He will be worked in slowly as the Jets game with the Ravens nears.
However, Revis gets the opportunity to work a new deal in four
seasons at a still young age of 29. He was greeted with a hero's welcome when
he walked into training camp with many of his teammates bowing and even some
pretending to faint. It appears that the chemistry with this team has not been
effected and his presence can only be looked upon as a substantial positive.
That will have to be fact though as the Jets have an extremely
tough 5-week test during which they will host Baltimore
in Week 1, host the Patriots in Week 2, on the road at Miami
in Week 3, on the road at Buffalo in Week 4, and
hosting Minnesota
in Week 5.
They could be as bad a 1-4 or as good as 4-1 after this stretch.
Probably not likely on either extreme, but even a 2-3 start will make the
'Super Bowl' talk more of an albatross than a motivator. Interesting too is
that the Jets are only installed as a 2 1/2 point favorites in Week 1 against Baltimore.
For self proclaimed Super Bowl contenders this is hardly a vote
of confidence form the betting public.
The Greek has posted a +1015 line, essentially 10/1
that the Jets will win the Super Bowl and +625
or about 6/1 to win the AFC Championship.
The Jets were first in rushing offense last year and they will
certainly be near the top of list again. One of the reasons why they may not be
first is the presence of veteran LaDainian Tomlinson, who showed how valuable a
receiver he can be out of the backfield.
Sanchez was 28th in quarterback rating and threw for just 12
touchdowns and 20 interceptions. These touchdown and interception numbers need
to be reversed if the Jets truly are Super Bowl contenders.
The presence of Tomlinson will allow Sanchez to check down to him
in his progression of reads. Moreover, there will be new plays designed for
Tomlinson out of the backfield that will be used as ball control plays that
will help sustain time consuming scoring drives.
The Jets have excellent wide receivers, but Braylon Edwards will
not play until Week 5 when his four game suspension has been completed. As
noted above, this is significant loss given the tough NFL schedule, but they still have Jerricho Cotchery and Santonio
Holmes as big play makers.
Don't forget that SBR is focusing on the Jets this week in NFL betting. So, if you have money on them or are just a loyal fan make certain to follow the SBR Twitter feed.
The biggest question on the Jets offense is the offensive line
and how left guard Matt Slauson will perform in the wake of veteran Alan
Franeca's release. The Jets running game will take pressure off Slauson in pass
protection. A strong running game always sets up play action which is far
easier for a left guard to block then straight passing situations.
Sanchez likes to look down field first and many times he will
need more than the standard three-seconds to throw the ball. Slauson was
largely inconsistent in the preseason and it is necessary for him to step up
large in Week 1.
The Jets defense led the league by more than 30 yards per game
last year and allowed just eight touchdown passes. The signing of Revis is more
important than most fans realize. Had he not signed then rookie Kyle Wilson
would have started in his place. With the signing of Revis, Wilson can now focus on being the nickel
back.
The secondary has also been improved with the signing of
cornerback Antonio Cromartie. The toughness and physicality of this unit will
not be questioned and will again be arguably one of the best in the NFL.
For the true blooded Jets fan take at look at Sanchez at +2500 25/1 to win the NFL MVP award
listed at The
Greek.
