Week 4 in the NFL and Week 5 in college football was reportedly a small winner for the books, according to Doc, the Head Linesman at Legends sportsbook. Looking at the week ahead, Legends will point out some sharp lines and action.
Doc saw action early in the week in college football betting on Army -7, which was supposedly a Billy Walters side, and Army did in fact see line movement early in the week pushing the number up, but curiously came back down to 7 by game time. Army, of course, covered their spread over Tulane very easily, proving Walters right, at least on that game. According to Doc though, Walters also favored a few other college football sides that lost.
Alabama covered again on a line bettors were debating pre-game all week long, but proved to not be even close on the field. The Crimson Tide dominated Florida, a great program that had been playing well so far this year, getting the easy cover as a 4-point road favorite. Doc discussed the year-long betting action on Alabama, as well as a similar tear, LSU. Both of those teams have been moderate-to-big favorites in their games this year, and are also usually overwhelmingly favored by the public and sometimes by sharps as well. They seem to be undervalued though, and repeatedly get covers in their games, rewarding the public and their sharp backers alike, and crushing the books, according to Doc.
In the NFL, teasers are always hugely important to a book’s P/L number on Sunday, and for Week 4, the teaser results were not good for the books in general. However, Philadelphia losing outright as a big favorite was huge for the books, and saved them from having a losing day. So overall, even though there were a lot of losing games and bad results for the books, most probably has a slightly profitable day.
Looking ahead to Week 5 NFL and Week 6 in college, Indiana took early sharp action as they did last week, which is reflected in their spread dipping down to +14 from an opening of +16.5. A number of other sides were favored early by various sharp outfits, and Doc relays that he pretty much knows what result he will need in the Philly/Buffalo game in the NFL.
