Edmonton Oilers vs. Dallas Stars Hockey Betting

Since climbing within one game of .500, the  Oilers have been getting smacked around left, right and center. The downward spiral won’t end in Dallas as the Stars will arrange the Oilers latest shortcoming.

Edmonton Oilers at Dallas Stars NHL Betting Odds

The Edmonton Oilers Can Win Because…:

The Dallas Stars are much better on the road than at home recently.

Taking a look back over the last few weeks, the Stars have won their last seven road games but the story has been very different at the American Airlines Center. The Stars have lost five straight at home as they can’t seem to find goals for their own crowd.

The Stars have eight goals over their last five home games and this type of offensive sputtering will put them on even footing with the Oilers.

Oddly enough, Dallas has played much better against Eastern Conference opponents than against the teams in the West. Dallas is 10-2-1 against the East but just 15-15 against the West.

Clearly, there aren’t a ton of reasons to bet on the Oilers but there are a few good reasons to bet against Dallas.

The Dallas Stars Can Win Because…:

The Edmonton Oilers are showing flashes of being a competitive team, but they are showing more flashes of being young and inexperienced.

Edmonton has just 33 points on the season, which slots them dead last in the Eastern Conference. They haven’t done much winning all season long but especially over the last couple of weeks.

Brad RichardsThe Oilers have won just twice in their last 12 games and a visit to Dallas won’t help. The Stars have won the last two meetings while scoring 10 goals in those two contests.

Some pundits and NHL handicappers might not be sure about the Stars – and whether they are actually Stanley Cup contenders – but Dallas is making a case. They are 7-3-2 in their last 12 and made a move to pick up veteran winger Jamie Langenbrunner to bolster the lineup. The acquisition infused some team-wide confidence as the Stars earned a 4-0 win on Sunday in his debut.

Special teams will be in the Stars favor on Tuesday night as their power play unit has converted six of their last 16 opportunities and ranks 15th overall, whereas Edmonton has the league’s worst-ranked penalty kill and their power play ranks 28th.

Outlook & NHL Betting Prediction:

The Stars are the significantly better team in this NHL matchup and bettors should expect them to end their odd five-game home losing streak on Tuesday. Especially since the Oilers haven’t won on the road since December 2nd.

The Oilers have just two wins in their last 12 and both of their goalies struggle against Dallas. Youngster Devan Dubnyk is 0-2-0 against the Stars while giving up 10 goals in those two contests while veteran Nikolai Khabibulin allows roughly three goals per game when facing the Stars.
