It is Super Bowl Sunday but the sports betting world does not stop until 6:30pm ET, so let's take a look at the hockey games for today and make some picks
Pittsburgh
Penguins at New Jersey Devils
NHL Odds: Penguins
-120
Some people might be surprised to see the Pittsburgh
Penguins as such a small favorite on the road in New Jersey but the Devils
actually have their number. Pittsburgh has not fared well in New Jersey, losing
six of their last seven visits including a 3-1 loss on December 31st.
The Devils are playing well these days as they enter the
contest on a three-game winning streak. They’re scoring goals at a healthy clip
as they have notched 15 in that span and when they are lighting the lamp,
they’ll usually winning since they have above average defense and goaltending.
Martin Brodeur feasts on the Penguins as he’s 44-25-1
(and four ties) against them. He has a respectable 2.42 GAA and .904 save
percentage versus Pittsburgh.
The Penguins have not been a great road team this season
(15-11-2), so take the Devils as a small home dog on Sunday.
NHL Picks: Devils
Winnipeg Jets at
Montreal Canadiens
NHL Odds: Over/Under 5
The Montreal Canadiens and Winnipeg Jets will square off
on Sunday in what looks like a low-scoring affair. The Jets have had a really
rough time scoring goals recently as they haven’t reached three in any of their
last five games. In total, they only have six in that span.
It’s not a surprise to find out that all of those games
came on the road as the Jets have been a brutal road team this season. They are
just 9-15-4 on the road and average just 2.21 goals per game.
Overall, the Jets have been playing plenty of unders
recently as 11 of their last 15 games have stayed below the total. Also, the
under is 17-6 when they have faced a team with a losing record this season.
Habs goaltender Carey Price had the night off on
Saturday, so he should be fresh for Sunday’s contest. Look for this one to stay
under.
NHL Picks: Under
Philadelphia
Flyers at New York Rangers
NHL Odds: Rangers -140
The New York Rangers have played well in this series
recently, mostly in part to the significant difference in goaltending. They
have won five straight over the Philadelphia Flyers and haven’t really had many
problems with them.
In that span, the Flyers haven’t scored more than two
goals in any of those games, have been shutout twice and have been outscored
18-4.
Philadelphia has been wildly inconsistent over the last
couple of weeks as they have alternated wins and losses over their last 10
games.
The Rangers have played pretty well against good teams
this season as they are 16-8 against teams with a winning record. They are also
9-3 against their division opponents and 9-4 in their last 13 games overall.
Also, Saturday’s affair will be the third game in four
nights for the Flyers, so they could be a little more worn down than the Rangers,
who have had a full three days rest. Take the Rangers.
