After getting swept in a home-and-home series against the Central division leading Detroit Red Wings, the Boston Bruins (31-18-7) will get a quick taste of home cooking as they entertain the Toronto Maple Leafs (23-27-6) before embarking on a six game road swing starting Thursday, while the Leafs will look to snap a two game losing skid with a victory over their Northeast division rivals.

Sometimes streaks are the best remembered parts of a season but for the Calgary Flames they are the meat and potatoes of a decent league finish, now they’re looking to win seven in a row.

The hardest working team in the NHL*, the Rangers, take a trip North of the border to Montreal to see if they can put a dent in the Canadiens’ hopes of catching the Bruins in the Northeast Division.

The waddling Penguins have stamped their little feet all the way to second in the Atlantic, sitting just five points adrift of the Flyers on 66 points and who’s that just five points behind them?

The Boston Bruins and Anaheim Ducks have proved to be a couple of creepers this season in NHL betting, quietly providing good value for those that have been backing them. The Kings have struggled of late but they being a home series this evening against Phoenix and will be looking to get their game back on track.

The New York Rangers are at home when they face the Toronto Maple Leafs and whilst a home crowd would normally be seen as a good thing, the Rangers are just 11-10-2 at home so is that advantage Toronto?

The Tampa Bay Lightning’s recent acquisition of goaltender Dwayne Roloson makes them a team to watch in the coming weeks – and for the rest of the season. The Islanders, however, have been plagued by injuries, and their future appears grim.

Weekly NHL Betting Catch-All

If you ask any square bettor to list the best teams in the NHL, their rap sheet will include the following teams: Detroit, Chicago, Vancouver, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, and Washington. That’s not a bad answer, except it leaves out the club that could easily headline the list. The Los Angeles Kings are arguably the best team in the league – and sharpest wager – that no one knows about.

The Hockey season is hitting the Christmas and New Years schedule and there are some teams who can really offer you the chance to beat the books in the NHL odds. Ovechkin and the Capitals might be hitting form just at the right moment and the Lightning coming out of Tampa is bright right about now.

Two teams that have experienced similarly rough Novembers must be thankful that it’s a new month on the Calendar and will both be looking to start December off with a win. But when the Ottawa Senators meet the San Jose Sharks on Thursday night, things can only get better for one of them!

November was an awful month for Edmonton and although it ended with a win against the Senators, the Oilers must be glad to see a different month on the calendar.

In no other professional sport does momentum play as huge a role as it does in the NHL. Things can change quickly in hockey, and a team riding high one week can fall on hard times in a heartbeat.

Much has been debated about what happens when an unstoppable force meets an immoveable object (not least by Frank Sinatra) but less has been written about what will happen when a team on a roll meets a team on their ass and on the skids...... Until now…

Expect the Coyotes to treat the Oilers like the US Senate treated British Petroleum after the Deepwater Horizon oil spill. The Coyotes are on an eight game winning streak, yes EIGHT! A great stat that flatters their prowess as the nature of their victories has something of the look of Luca Brasi, i.e. not very pretty but gets the job done.

It’s not the sort of match up that you’d expect to see on the Discovery Channel, but when the Panthers take on the Penguins expect plenty of action. The small flightless birds (Penguins) are on a mini-arctic roll at the moment, they comfortably beat the Vancouver Canucks last Wednesday and the Carolina Hurricanes two days later.

What a difference a week makes.  Last week the LA Kings (12-6 SU, +5.6 units) were NHL royalty as they had reeled off 6 straight wins and had come out on top in 8 of their last 9 games.

Allez Allez! The Canadiens need to bounce back from that nasty defeat at the hands of the Nashville Predators, but the Toronto Maple Leafs aren’t the easiest of teams to host, now they seem to have remembered how to win after their terrible losing streak.

Stanley Cup final hangover? The Philadelphia Flyers are going through nothing of the sort. In fact, it looks the Flyers might be the best team – and one of the sharpest betting odds wagers – in the NHL.

The Sharks began the season overseas and suffered a poor start once they returned to the US but now they sit third in the Pacific Division and more importantly, recently took a  6-3 victory over the league leaders (LA Kings) on Monday. They are staking a clear claim for a fourth-straight division title.

Could the sticky Edmonton Oilers make it three for three against the Stanley Cup Holders The Chicago Blackhawks? Stranger things have happened, but it’s the way these teams’ seasons are going that stops me betting the house on Chicago….Anything can happen!
