Expect furious bookies paying out money when the red-hot Maple Leafs visit Pittsburgh, home of the tepid Penguins. Don't expect a repeat of the March 2010 match which saw the home side run out 5-4 winners thanks to a late goal from Captain Sidney Crosby and there could be some good money to be made on this game in NHL week 2.

NHL Stanley Cup Betting Odds

10/04/2010 12:00 AM
Matthew Ross -

When last we left off in NHL betting odds action, the Chicago Blackhawks were polishing off the Philadelphia Flyers for the Stanley Cup. It was a great hockey betting season, one that had many playoff surprises. So now we're ready to do it all over again. Currently, our SBR Forum sportsbooks favor the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Blackhawks to win it all, listing them both at 6/1.

Chance Harper - The start of the NHL regular season is just around the corner, meaning now is the time to get those future NHL bets down.  Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins are presently 5/1 to win the Stanley Cup after bowing out to the Habs in the second round of last season's playoffs.  But the real value might be with the Vancouver Canucks who sit at 7/1 with the Sedin Twins and Roberto Luongo.

One more win and Lord Stanley's Cup belongs to the Chicago Blackhawks for the first time since Harry S. Truman was in the White House.  Game 6 is Wednesday in Philly.

Chance Harper - Home is where the heart is, as the old saying goes.  It's also where the wins are in the 2010 Stanley Cup Finals with all five contests to date going to the squad skating on its home ice.  The latest came Sunday when the Blackhawks grabbed a 3-2 lead in the series with a 7-4 triumph over the Flyers.  Philadelphia's Wachovia Center will now be the site for Game 6 with the Blackhawks seeking their first championship in 49 years.

Chance Harper - Flyers goalie Michael Leighton was on a roll between the pipes during the playoffs...before he met up the Blackhawks in the Stanley Cup Finals, that is.  The third-string goaltender couldn't survive Chicago's barrage in the series opener, and 'Hawks goalie Antti Niemi also had his share of trouble in the 6-5 Game 1 thriller.  The series continues this week with Game 2 in the Windy City before the two squads head to Philly.

Joe Freda - The Stanley Cup Finals opened with a 6-5 goalfest in favor of the Blackhawks.  Chicago will be on its home ice again tonight for Game 2 against the Flyers.

Chance Harper - With center Jeff Carter returning from his foot injury and goalie Michael Leighton still pitching shutouts, the Flyers are a game away from the Stanley Cup Final.  Montreal's amazing run could come to an end Monday night in Philadelphia.  Whoever comes out of the Eastern Conference eventually will find the Blackhawks waiting for them after Chicago swept aside the San Jose Sharks to take the Western Conference.

Joe Freda - Michael Leighton has three shutouts to his credit in the Eastern Conference Final as the Flyers look to finish off the Montreal Canadiens tonight at home in Philadelphia.

DonBest.com - The Blackhawks took a commanding 3-0 lead in their series with the Sharks with an overtime win on Friday, and they are one win away from their first Stanley Cup Final since 1992.

Joe Freda - The Blackhawks all but wrapped up this series Friday night, as Dustin Byfuglien’s overtime goal more than likely took the heart out of the Sharks while giving Chicago a 3-0 series lead.

statfox.com - The Flyers look to rebound and take a 3-1 lead in their series with Montreal after losing Game 3 by a 5-1 count, and Michael Cammalleri has given the Flyers added ammo with his taunting.

The past five meetings between the Sharks and Blackhawks have gone to the road underdog.  Look for San Jose to get the win tonight at Chicago's United Center.

Joe Freda - Michael Leighton has pitched a couple of shutouts on the ice to help the Flyers to a 2-0 lead over the Habs.  Montreal will try to cut that deficit in half at the Bell Centre tonight.

Joe Freda - Chicago grabbed a 1-0 lead in the Western Conference Final thanks to a late goal from Dustin Byfuglien. San Jose look to even the series at home on Tuesday.

Chance Harper - Philadelphia's remarkable rally from a 3-0 hole versus Boston carried over to Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Final with a 6-0 Flyers win over the Canadiens.  Two of Philly's goals came on the power play, including Simon Gagne's second period score that gave the Flyers a 4-0 lead.  Chicago's 2-1 win at San Jose in Game 1 out west was far less one-sided as goalie Antti Niemi stopped 44 of the 45 shots the Sharks sent his way.

Matthew Ross - It just might be the might unlikely NHL playoff betting matchup this deep in NHL postseason history. Montreal and Philadelphia open their series tonight.
