Among the early chatter at the 2010 SBR Bash Poker
Tournament was that SBR poster RonPaul2008, second-place finisher in the 2009
tournament, was entered this year again, and many observers openly wondered how
he would fare. Well not only did he do well once again, he bested his 2009 performance,
winning the 2010 tournament and claiming the top prize of $2,000.
The second-place finisher was the poster Dante, who took home
$1,200, and was a crowd favorite by the end. Dante was short-stacked for much
of the final table, but he employed a smart strategy that paid off when he hit several
of his all-ins, allowing him to last down to the very end. Dante delighted the
crowd with his animated eagerness, which stood in contrast to the understated
manner of the obviously sharp RonPaul2008.
The final table counted a number of well-known and
well-respected posters, including MonkeyFOcker and dwaechte. There was also one
bratty "guest" entrant who made the final table, who was not an SBR poster
himself, and who spazzed out repeatedly when he was on the bubble of cashing. The SBR.TV camera crew caught him as he made
the money, when he told the room he "came to Vegas with 9 dollars".
Extra bonuses of $200 each were awarded to the posters
Poker_Beast, for knocking out SBR_John, and fishmonger, for knocking out poker
pro Evelyn Ng, who was one of the guest celebrities at the bash. "I was a
little intimidated by her beauty and skill, but I got pocket nines, I had to do
it" said fishmonger, when asked about eliminating the famous pro.
Well-known and well-respected poster eidolon was very
gracious about being the first one eliminated, as was SBR moderator Willie Bee,
who was second out. Willie Bee seemed unconcerned about his early exit, saying
"What the hell, I'm just a dumb Texan...I can go get some drinks now for my
little Detroit Muslim brother Paco and then I'm gonna have fun tonight".
