In one of the most spectacular performances in SBRforum poker history, forum poster FuzzyDunlop persevered through a field of 308 poker players to capture the SBR WSOP Freeroll Series championship and the $10,000 WSOP Main Event seat that came with it.
In addition to having an entry fee to the big dance, FuzzyDunlop will have travel and hotel accomodations provided by SBR.
FuzzyDunlop was one of 600 SBRforum posters to attempt to qualify for a
Saturday, June 25th showdown that would ultimately pit 308 contestants
in a tournament where 5,250 SBR points plus an $11,000+ total package
would be given away.
From May 3rd to June 25th, SBRforum poker players
underwent a seesaw battle to fight for positioning both to advance to
the SBR WSOP Grand Finale, and to achieve points for the upcoming SBR Poker Ryder Cup series.
SBRtv's Peter Loshak conducted an interview with
the man himself via web cam conference. You may watch that video in its
entirety below.
The winning hand
The field of 308 whittled down to two, FuzzyDunlop held more than a 3-1 chip lead with a stack of $702,160 compared to opponent John Morrison's $221,839. Both men anted $1,000 to start the hand, FuzzyDunlop sat in the small blind and hesitated a few seconds—perhaps for effect—before shoving all-in. John Morrison insta-called and both men flipped their virtual cards faceup.
Fuzzy Dunlop held an Ace of clubs and Deuce of spades, while John Morrison had pocket fours. The flop came down Jack-Ace-Eight. The turn and river did not bring a four and right then and there FuzzyDunlop cemented his place in SBRforum poker champion history.
WSOP Main Event 2011
FuzzyDunlop will be clad in SBR gear on Thursday, July 7th at the Rio
Hotel in beautiful Las Vegas, ready to show that his performance two
weeks ago was no fluke. While the majority of SBRforum's faithful wish him the best, there are those that believe FuzzyDunlop won't survive day one. Some think that Fuzzy bluffed his way to a championship, and will be hard-pressed to pull off similar chip heists against seasoned live-players.
The SBR Sportsbook is currently offering odds on Fuzzy's upcoming performance.. with the line heavily favoring a day two dismissal.
SBRforum moderator and store manager 'Sam9ball' will be in attendance throughout Fuzzy's WSOP tournament run, and will be capturing, tweeting, photographing the entire event for SBRforum. Check back for updates on Fuzzy's progress and the latest and greatest highlights from this year's 2011 WSOP Main Event championship in Las Vegas!
