The 2012-13 EPL season is nearing upon us and bettors know that one sharp play is always which player is going to find the back of the net the most times. Here we rundown on the main players the bookies expect to be in with a look.
Premier
League Top Goalscorers
Not long left in the countdown to the most competitive league in the world which begins its
new season on August 19th. The Premier League is again filled with the best of
the best, but who are the best picks to nab the most goals?
Last season’s golden boot award went to Robin van
Persie, who netted 30 for the season. He was closely followed by Wayne Rooney
(27) and Sergio Aguero (23) on the scoring charts.
Will much change in 2012/13? There could be a few surprises
but for the most part the top goalscorers should remain the same.
Sergio
Aguero (+700)
Not a bad first season in English soccer. Aguero
more than justified the hefty 39 million Euro pricetag by rolling in 23 league
goals and a further 7 in competitions to take his overall tally to 30.
He may be small in stature, but Aguero is solid as a
rock with an insane burst of speed that make him an odds on favorite. He’ll continue to terrorize opposing
defenses this coming season, especially on such a stacked team like Manchester
City.
Wayne
Rooney (+700)
Long considered the savior of England, Rooney was
rather disappointing in Euro 2012 after being suspended for the majority of his
countries’ campaign. Still, he remains a game-changer when on form and he’ll be
the main source of goals for United again this season.
Rooney scored 27 goals in 32 Premier League matches
in 2011/12 and added four more goals from the rest of the competitions. It
doesn’t seem to matter who lines up with him (Welbeck, Hernandez, Berbatov,
etc.), the man just cannot seem to stop scoring.
Robin
van Persie (+800)
Though his future club may be uncertain, one thing
is not: when healthy, no one possesses the goalscoring ability of Robin Van
Persie.
After leading the league with 30 goals, Arsene
Wenger has tried to do everything in his power to keep the Dutch marksman at
the Emirates. It seems Van Persie has other ideas though after failing to sign
a further contract for the Gunners and the possible departure destinations have
ranged from Manchester United to Juventus.
Fernando
Torres (+900)
Few players are scrutinized as much as Torres, who
left Liverpool as a goalscoring legend and struggled immensely to replicate
that kind of success at Stamford Bridge.
There were signs at the end of the season that the
Spaniard had finally begun to find his feet in a Chelsea uniform. He scored a
crucial goal in the Champions League semi-final against Barcelona and was also a
key part of Spain’s Euro 2012 triumph, being the surprise winner of the golden
boot for most goals in the contest.
Luis
Suarez (+1200)
Suarez scored just 11 goals last term but dealt with
suspensions and a lackluster Liverpool side surrounding him. There’s a strong
possibility we’ll see a much better return this season under new red’s manager
Brendan Rodgers, who enjoys playing the kind of soccer that Suarez excels at.
Despite becoming one of the most hated strikers in
the country, Suarez has undeniable talent and could have his best season yet at
Anfield with new boy Fabio Borini by his side.
Also
worth mentioning: Carlos Tevez (+1200), Javier Hernandez (+1600), Danny Welbeck
(+2000), Mario Balotelli (+2000), Olivier Giroud (+2000), Papiss Cisse (+2000)
and Darren Bent (+2500).
Best
Picks: Aguero (+700), Torres (+900)
Some positions at Manchester City may be up for
grabs, but Aguero’s is not. He’s the star of this Manchester City attack and
will get plenty of chances to score.
Torres is obviously much more of a risky pick, but
now that Didier Drogba is gone he should be a constant in the starting lineup.
No one’s as dangerous as Torres when playing a lot and full of confidence.
