If you feel that simple, solitary, single match betting just isn’t doing it for you, why not have an accumulator (aka parlay bet across the pond) on the English Premier League? See if we think backing the so-called big four with your soccer picks is worthwhile.
Mrs Richardson has asked me to point out
that these football accumulator bets require all selections to come up trumps
for the bet to be a winner, but even ‘er indoors knows that the big benefit of
an accumulator bet is that the more selections you include the bigger the
potential return.

Not so Fantastic Four
I’d say stay away from backing all of the
big four (Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea and Arsenal). This is no
casting of aspersions at any of these teams, but the season is shaping up to be
a wild one, and Arsenal are a bit rubbish (thus far). If you want to back the
Big Four, they are offered at around 11/2 to all win, but if you drop Arsenal
the odds drop to 10/3 (worth a wee punt).
Saying that, Arsenal play host to the only
team without a point in the league, Southampton. The tale
of the table tells only half the story as the Saints have battled well in their
return to the Premier League, they very nearly caused an upset against both
Manchesters, and sons of Bedford Place (and other areas in Southampton) might
just be gifted a shock result from the Gods of football, but common sense and
atheist science says they won’t.
Backing the top three!
You can get 25/1 on Chelsea, Swansea City
& West Brom all to win. That might sound unlikely but you have to remember
that these are the teams at the top of the league. Chelsea should have no real
bother against QPR if they can just get past the John Terry handshake issue.
Swansea should be able to cope with a lacklustre Aston Villa, even away from
home (although the tea leaves tell me this one will end drawn) and West Brom, who have started well under new boss Steve Clarke, will fancy their chances
against Fulham. It’s not a BFH (Bus Fare Home) bet, but what do you want for
25/1?
Feeling contrary
You might want to check out Arsenal, Aston
Villa & Fulham all to win at 13/2. Villa are still winless, which some
might say means they are due a three pointer. Fulham have been on the wrong end
of two bad results, and were kicked out of the cup in-between them, but new
signing Dimitar Berbatov will be keen as beetroot to score goals, and the
Cottagers as just the sort of team to end the Baggies' unbeaten start.
The missus misses shoe shopping
It’s about time that Mrs. Richardson had a
trip to the show shops, so I’m going hard(ish) on a three way accumulator. The
shoe fund is backing Man City, Chelsea & Swansea City all to Win at 10/1.
Chelsea (at 7/2 to win the league) are the banker against QPR (a side currently
at 3/1 to go down). Manchester City seem to have the attitude of Manchester
United about grinding out three points (vital for trips to Stoke) and Swansea
could just be hitting Villa at the right time.
As always there are as many accumulators as
opinions, but that’s half the fun.
There is also that man Michael Owen.
Stoke’s fresh signing is certainly worth a bet, however I can’t decide whether
to back him to do his leg in then watch Stoke lose from his sick bed (shall we
call that the Newcastle accumulator) or will be he pop up in the dying moments,
with the game poised and score a memorable winner against Manchester City (and
let’s call that the Manchester United accumulator).
