With the international break giving us pause from the goals and excitement of the EPL it’s the perfect time consider the some player proposition bets. Find our which betting options we think you should add to your soccer picks.

Already this EPL term we have seen almost 180 goals and a pair of dark horses, Everton and West Brom throw their hats into the ring as contenders for a top six finish. Chelsea may lead the league, but the Manchesters are still the bookies favourites to squabble over the EPL trophy. The relegation race looks to (already) be a five way split between some highly predictable suspects. There is no cause for gambling concern of the “normal” league odds refuse to float your gambling boats because there is a plethora of Player Proposition bets to accelerate your pulse and swell your coffers.

Golden Boot

The biggest and most obvious bet to get involved with is the old “who will score the most goals”. This "golden boot" award is fiercely contested every season by the EPL’s marksmen, and the punters who bet on him usually take fat pay-outs at the bookies' windows, if they get it right. There’s no surprises that  Robin van (Elbow) Persie is the sportsbook’s favourite to be the Premier League 2012-13 Top Goalscorer at 11/4, it’s a fair bet as not only is RvP a deadly little goalscorer he’s also part of the team that scores and scores and scores, Manchester United (three on Sunday against Newcastle). The odds would turn me off as I think that the returns don’t justify it and with the Golden Boot there is also the spectre of “injury” that could ruin a “sure thing”.

Fernando TorresElsewhere and quite tempting is Fernando Torres at 13/2, as it’s about time the former Liverpool man hit his form and the way that Chelsea are racking up wins (and goals, four on Saturday) makes it look like FT might silence a few doubters this season.  You might also be interested in having a little punt of that man Sergio Aguero at 9/1, although I feel that with the company he keeps the goals are spread out quite thinly amongst his teammates.

I might also have to add a few mini bets to my soccer picks on a couple of higher odded players who are the sort of players who occasionally go on a goal rush, both Luis Suarez and Carlos Tevez are worth a few pounds at 10/1, while if you want to shame the bookies with your footballing savoir fair you’ll have to bet on someone like Jermain Defoe at 16/1 or Demba Ba at 20/1 to take a wodge off them. It’s interesting to note that the hair and its man, Wayne Rooney is a wild 25/1 to be the EPL’s top scorer this term. Which probably speaks volumes about his teammate RvP.

Getting specific

Liverpool are one of those “entertaining” teams and while they are long odds to win the league, currently at 80/1 (6th favourite) to win the league and even 8/1 (7th favourite) to record a top four finish. However, if you’re a Liverpool fan you can always bet on who will be Liverpool’s top scorer in the EPL this season. Favourite is Luis Suarez at 1/8, followed by Steven Gerrard at 5/1 and Fabio Borini 10/1.

There’s excitement with a capital X with Norwich this season, as they are already looking like a relegation zone locked side. But if you want to take some joy from their trials in the top flight, betting on Norwich’s top goalscorer offers up Grant Holt at 4/5, Steve Morison at 4/1 and Simon Jackson 8/1.

If you are the sort who follows players before they follow teams here’s a man specific bet that might turn your head. You can bet on Michael Owen to score Under 5 goals at 4/9 this season. That’s worth a punt as he’s hardly looked like a striker so far or if you want to be exact you can back the boy with the black beauty theme in his head to score exactly 5 goals, at 5/2.

If you don’t like the sound of any of those bets, and you have a more social-political slant why not bet on Ashley (the latest twit with a tweet) Cole to never to play for England again 3/1.
