The beginning of the season hasn't been stellar for Brett Favre, to say the
least. But he still has a shot at turning around. That said, we aren't buying it. Currently, his NFL play with the Minnesota Vikings has led to a 1-3 record at the quarter point in the season. So, how will
he do the rest of the way? Will it be yet another legendary comeback or will he flame out in a hurry?
A number of factors have made 2010 a more
difficult campaign for the future hall-of-famer. In addition to injuries (including to Sidney Rice) and new faces at the
receiving position (hello, Mr. Moss), Favre has been playing on a surgically repaired ankle and is battling tendinitis in his elbow.
Plus, with reports the NFL is investigating allegations that Favre exchanged adult-theme text
messages with a former Jets employee, other distractions are aplenty.
SBR Forum Oddsmaker Steve Ricci has these football prop odds
on the rest of the gunslinger’s season (live odds first posted in August 2010):
Brett Favre plays all 16 2010 NFL reg. season games?
Yes 5/4
No 2/3
Revealing Brett Favre photo/video/text message to surface
during 2010 NFL reg. season? ***prop closed, the answer appears to be yes
Yes Even
No Even
Deanna Favre legally separates or files or divorce during
the 2010 NFL reg. season?
Yes +400 (4/1)
No -450 (2/9)
Brett Favre declares official retirement plans during the
2010 NFL reg. season?
Yes 3/2 (August 2010 it was Yes 40/1)
No 2/1 (August 2010 it was No 1/50)
“While Brett Favre has played more consecutive games than
anyone in the history of professional football, we believe the Saints REALLY
exposed the Vikings offensive line in the NFC Championship game,” explains
Steve Ricci. You combine that with his ankle injury and we
think he’s ripe to miss a few games, finally.” Ricci also believes that if the Vikings continue to lose, Favre could play the injury card and simply sit out a bunch of games. Minnesota plays Dallas this week and one of these two so-called favorites will be 1-4 when it's all said and done.
We had the odds of something surfacing sexting-wise at even heading into this season. But now that more allegations and pictures are circulating, we are prepared to close this prop and declare the YES side a winner.
As for the notion that Deanna Favre would leave or separate
from her husband over known or any new adultery-oriented evidence? “We still don’t
see it at the moment. She’s been a ‘stand by your man’ kind of gal throughout his entire
career.”
Finally, initially Ricci thought there was a better chance of
hell freezing over than Favre actually announcing his retirement plans during
the season. “The notion of the Missouri QB pre-empting any retirement talk with
an official press conference during the season is utter nonsense.” But at this point, the SBR linesmaker is ready to change his tune.
"Hey, it looks like there's ice in hell. Favre looks so beaten up and worn down. With his play now diminishing as well, we think there's a legitimate chance he walks out on this team if it looks like they won't make the postseason."
