Wozniacki vs. Cibulkova

Diminutive Dominika Cibulkova clashes with Caroline Wozniacki, the number 1 seed.  You can bet on tennis at 5Dimes who have the line on Wozniacki at -1303.  The line on Cibulkova is +1052.

Cibulkova showed off her forehand in her fourth round win over Kuznetsova.  Admittedly, Kuznetsova, who is not known for her consistency, may have beat herself.  She double-faulted 10 times against Cibulkova.Wozniacki won't make that mistake.  The Dane's saber-like two-handed backhand is more than most of her opponents can handle.  And Wozniacki's serve appears to be vastly improved.  All in all, the Dane looks poised to go all the way.

Cibulkova will need more than a good forehand, if she wants to upset the Dane.  The Slovakian will need to add a hefty dose of luck to her arsenal of weapons.  Otherwise, Wozniacki will probably dictate the circumstances of the match, easily shaking off the outclassed Cibulkova.

Kanepi vs. Zvonareva

In her march to the quarterfinals, Kaia Kanepi, who is seeded 31st, capsized the number 15 seed Wickmayer.  Kanepi dropped the first set 6-0, then rebounded, coming back to win.

This is Kanepi's third Grand Slam quarterfinal, and speaks eloquently of her tenacity.  The Estonian just won't give up.  She likes the fast hard court, which opens up her game, allowing her to bring her strong serve and pounding groundstrokes into play.

Kanepi's nemesis is Vera Zvonareva, the number 7 seed.  The Russian's fitness level has kept her down and out in the past.  But this year she arrives physically fit, which should enable her to hunt down Kanepi's deep corner-shots.

Zvonareva's other flaw is her occasional meltdowns.  Yet in her win over Petkovic in round 4, the Russian appeared to be playing smart rather than emotional tennis.  The result was the almost surgical dispatch of Petkovic.

If Zvonareva continues to play with her head instead of her heart, her mobility will carry her into the semi-finals.  The tennis betting odds at Paddypower have Kanepi at 12/5 and Zvonareva at 3/10.

Look for sizzling serves and intense volleying in the Women's Quarterfinals.
